News and Notes from Jacksonville

It’s surprisingly cold and windy here in Jacksonville, Florida as Monster Energy AMA Supercross an FIM World Championship rolls through town. The open-roof Jacksonville Municipal Stadium does feature some of the best dirt on the circuit, though, and riders all seem pretty excited about the layout, too.
No returns off the injury list this week, as Chad Reed, James Stewart, Andrew Short and Josh Grant have yet to rejoin the series. Reed and Stewart are both expected to be in attendance tonight for interviews on the stadium floor, but racing, at least for Reed, probably won’t come until Houston.
In the Lites class, Nico Izzi is out with a broken toe, and Jake Moss might not be able to race after breaking his finger in a crash with Troy Adams in last week’s Lites race. Austin Stroupe is also banged up after several crashes in Dallas, with his thumb bothering him the most. He also hit his head pretty good last week and took the week off from riding. But he said he’s going to keep on fighting and should be okay tonight.
Dean Wilson is out of action again while still unable to get across the Canadian boarder and back into the US. Word is he may be back in by Monday, just in time to make next weekend’s weekend off!
Josh Hill is on the mend and feels like he’s getting closer to his old aggression after a series of crashes set him back a month ago. He’s not sure if he can stay strong for 20 laps yet, but the weekend off will help him, too.
The track looks fun, with a long whoop section, a technical triple-to-table rhythm lane, and a much longer start straight that last weekend, which will hopefully reduce the chances of a crazy first turn melee like last weekend.
In the first timed practice session, Davi Millsaps led the pack most of the way until Ryan Dungey sneaked in on the last lap to top him, 49.917 to 49.935. And Kevin Windham logged a 49.954. That’s close. Justin Brayton and Hill rounded out the top five. Ryan Villopoto went down in practice and got up limping at first, but he later got back on the bike and scored the 7th best time behind Trey Canard.
In the first Lites session, Christophe Pourcel logged a 49.780 to lead Martin Davalos, Ryan Sipes, Austin Stroupe and Blake Baggett in times. Toronto Lites SX winner Justin Barcia was 7th quickest.
