Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer Wins Second Straight
CARLSBAD, Calif. – Jake Weimer (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki) made it two-in-a-row this past weekend, parlaying a 2nd/4th two-moto finish into the overall 250 class win at RedBud in Buchanan, Mich., while teammate Christophe Pourcel came back from a crash-riddled first moto to win the second moto and place 2nd overall.
“I was pretty sure I had the overall by the halfway point,” said Weimer at the post-race press conference. “I knew the guys ahead of me were behind me in the first moto. I saw (Ryan) Dungey go down so he was behind me and he was the only one that beat me (in moto one). I feel like I rode well and I'm just happy to be up here."
With his 2nd place overall finish Pourcel maintained a nine-point (255-246) lead over Dungey as the two would split the wins and place 8th in their other moto. And with his win Weimer, whose results dipped dramatically after the first couple rounds, has battled his way back past Justin Barcia for 7th place in the overall standings – 24 points back of Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Tyla Rattray in 5th place. Rattray placed 13th at RedBud, going 6th/37th while suffering an injury in the second moto.
The Monster Energy-backed MX racers return to action July 18th for the Spring Creek MX National in Millville, Minn. For more information of the series link to its website at: www.mxnationals.com
