Unbound Energy’s Canard Back Where He Belongs

  • Unbound Energy’s Canard Back Where He Belongs
CORONA, Calif., – Unbound Energy supercross racer Trey Canard (Geico Powersports/Honda) pulled a spectacular start and put in 15 solid laps, nearly taking 2nd place, but in the end settling on a podium-finish 3rd in the WSX Lites main event at Seattle’s Qwest Field on Saturday.

With the effort Canard moved past Unbound Energy-backed Geico Powersports/Honda teammate Dan Reardon into 6th place in the overall ESX standings. Canard leads Reardon (who placed 13th at Seattle), 74-67, with one WSX race remaining. Note: Canard trailed Reardon 59-54 heading into Seattle.

“I’d like to finish out the WSX season with a couple podiums, hopefully a win, and carry that momentum into the Vegas Shoot Out,” said Canard. “So I was pumped to make the podium at Seattle. Made a good run as 2nd place, but will settle for 3rd and build on that next week in Utah.”

Canard blitzed his way through qualifying practice, putting up the third-fastest time (:56.052), then transferred to the main out of the second heat race where he placed 6th.

In the SX Lites main event Canard stepped up and grabbed the holeshot, but quickly gave up the lead to Jake Moss. Rounding the first lap in 4th place, Canard got back past Moss for 3rd place on lap four and would never give up that position. Putting up the second-fastest lap time of the night, less than 1/100th of a second behind race winner Ryan Dungey, Canard had his sites set on 2nd place finisher Ryan Morais, but wrecked late and couldn’t catch him. A testament to how fast Canard was flying was that he got back up and was still comfortably in 3rd place.

Reardon had a tough go of it from the start, coming around in second-to-last place after the first lap, but was still able to make it into the top 15 (13th) by the end of the race.

The final WSX stop for the Unbound Energy-backed Geico Powersports/Honda team is this weekend in Salt Lake City (April 25th).
