NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Chad Reed led a Bridgestone podium sweep in Monster Energy AMA Supercross competition Saturday in St. Louis, as the tire supplier continued its 2009 domination.
Reed (Rockstar / Makita Suzuki) won for the third time this season, defeating chief rival James Stewart (Team San Manuel / JSE Yamaha) before 56,000 fans at the Edward Jones Dome. Stewart crashed while leading midway through the main race but battled back to finish second, with fellow Bridgestone rider Josh Grant (Joe Gibbs Racing Yamaha) coming in third. Bridgestone riders have now won all 12 Supercross mains in 2009.
The victory allowed Reed to extend his lead over Stewart in the season championship to 11 points.
In AMA Supercross Lites Eastern Regional action, Bridgestone had a pair of podium finishers in second-place Austin Stroupe (Monster Energy / Pro Circuit Kawasaki) and third-place Nico Izzi (Rockstar / Makita Suzuki). The result marked the first time this season that a Bridgestone rider had not finished on the top step of the Supercross Lites podium. Still, Bridgestone riders occupy the top three spots in Eastern Regional, with Christophe Pourcel (Monster Energy / Pro Circuit Kawasaki) leading Stroupe and Izzi.
Monster Energy AMA Supercross and Eastern Regional Supercross Lites head north to Canada this weekend, with action at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. A delayed broadcast of the Supercross main event airs at noon Sunday on CBS. The Supercross Lites replay airs at 3 p.m. Sunday on SPEED Channel.
