EL CAJON, CA (May 5, 2008) – After 17 Rounds of grueling racing, and fighting through an injury that would put most riders out of contention, Chad Reed has completed his quest for his second Supercross Championship. During a season in which Chad claimed more than twice the victories as his closest competitor, it still came down to the final race of the season before the champion was crowned.
Before a packed house in Las Vegas, Chad Reed
rode an incredible race on his way to the Supercross Championship. On a track that featured the longest lap times of the year, it took stamina and patience to put in 20 strong laps. Chad could have played it safe and conservative, needing only a 6th place finish to wrap up the title, but he wanted to put an exclamation point on the championship, and he laid it all on the line in Vegas.
After a seventh place start that saw Millsaps, Windham, and Short all out front, Chad knew he’d have to battle through the pack of Honda’s if hoped to finish the season with a win. By lap 4, Windham had moved past Millsaps to take over the lead. Lap after lap, Chad closed on Windham as he worked his way through traffic.
Reed closed up on Windham on lap 13 and the crowd was on their feet in anticipation. Chad went for the pass through the whoop section and moved into the lead. After that, it was all Reed as he kept up his torrid pace and started gapping Windham by about a second a lap for the remainder of the race. When the checkered flag flew at the end of 20 laps it was Chad Reed
taking home the victory and the Championship.
Backed by Thor since 2002, Chad Reed
has continually demonstrated the heart of a true champion as he’s risen through the ranks to become one of the most celebrated champions in Supercross history. With 35 Supercross wins, Chad is third on the all-time Supercross wins list and is sure to add to that number in the future. Congratulations on another spectacular season!
