Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Rev Up. Before we get started here I just have to say – How about those Jayhawks, folks?! I remember when Danny Manning led them to the title 20 years ago, but it was nothing like this last one. It’s been a banner year for Kansas across the board but being the NCAA Men’s Basketball National Champions is simply the best. OK, enough of that…

RV is within 17 points of Canard. Can he close it up more this weekend? | | |
Round 14 of the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, an FIM World Championship heads up to Detroit “Motor City” this Saturday night for what should be a great night of Supercross racing. That said, they’ve all been pretty good this year. Save for the snoozer in Toronto, things have been as good as they possibly could have been with a half dozen podium contenders holding the couch down after injures. The writing on the wall says four more for the big boys, and two to go for the East Lites bunch where only 17 points separate
Trey Canard and
Ryan Villopoto. And I don’t think I’d start fitting
Chad Reed’s fingers for that second championship ring just yet either. A lot can happen in 80 laps, doctor. That may be reaching a bit, though. The Thunder is riding as good or better than he has in his entire career and seems to have things well in control. Let’s take a closer look at both divisions and get revved up for another basher in Detroit.
Lites
Ask Trey Canard how quickly momentum can change. One week you’re the darling of professional supercross and riding off into the sunset with what will be one of the most impressive championships in tiddler Supercross history, the next you find yourself tapping your foot madly on your foot peg as the 30-second card goes up for the LCQ of your home race. Trey showed championship form by keeping his focus and winning the last chance dash, and not even a first corner spill in the main deterred his winning stare as he chopped though the pack to the hardest-earned fourth place of his young career. Life is good for Trey, other than one thing – Ryan Villopoto will most likely lead all of the remaining 30 laps of the East Lites series. But Ryan can’t really hurt him. Guys like Josh Grant, Dominic Izzi, Martin Davalos, Ryan Morais, Ryan Sipes, Branden Jesseman, and Tyler Bowers are the ones that can keep him from the title. Crunch time, indeed!

Reed is rolling | | |
Chad Reed and
Josh Hill have become a pretty potent 1-2 combination this season. Hill has easily been the most improved rider since the opening round and not only has speed, but also the stamina to charge all 20 laps. He has been a major deterrent for
Kevin Windham in that he’s helped put space between he and Reed. I don’t see this changing this weekend in that regard.
Davi Millsaps and KW seem to be on a similar pace, just a couple tenths off of Hill. Then again, Windham hasn’t been able to buy a start, so who knows what he can do with a holeshot. He’s motivated and riding very well, but needs a very improbable slip up from Chad to get himself back in the hunt. Stranger things have happened; then again, if Reed isn’t the most consistent supercross rider in history, name me who is.

So, you know the drill. If you’re within driving distance, pack up the family truckster and head to Wally World. If you can’t make it, log your web browser to
www.supercrossonline.com and tune into Weege and Holley on
Supercross Live! And if you fancy yourself a decorated trafficker of dirt-slinging information like me, scope out one of the five Loretta Lynn's
Area Qualifiers taking place across the country, the Pirelli Big Buck GNCC event, or Round 3 of the ITP/Moose Racing AMA Pro ATV Motocross Nationals at
Ballance MX.
Thanks for reading, see you next week.
