Jason Lawrence Out For Freestone
Monster Energy’s Jason Lawrence Wrenches His Ankle Practicing In New Jersey – Out For Freestone National
Setback for Yamaha of Troy-backed rider in pursuit of 3rd place overall in Lites class standings; “questionable” for Glen Helen round as well
CORONA, Calif., (Aug. 30, 2007) – Monster Energy’s Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy) was injured practicing yesterday at a track in New Jersey, suffering a horribly sprained ankle that - given the gnarly swelling - took numerous X-rays to prove it wasn’t fractured.
The Grade III sprain will keep Lawrence out of AMA Toyota Motocross Championship competition this weekend at the series’ stop in Freestone, Texas. Lawrence’s status for Glen Helen (Calif.) next week is listed as “questionable.”
“Yeah, I’m pretty bummed,” said Lawrence in a phone call from New Jersey. “Things have been pretty jacked up for me the last few races, so it doesn’t surprise me that something like this happened – while practicing even. Better to get it out of the way now than right before supercross starts up.”
As it stands Lawrence is in 4th place overall in the Lites class field. With 277 points he’s 66 points ahead of the next closest ‘healthy’ competitor, Jake Weimer in 6th place (211 points). Weimer’s only been averaging 20 points a race over his past four races, so Lawrence’s hold on 4th place overall is pretty close to a lock.
“Whatever. I don’t care. I wanted 3rd overall and I blew it,” said Lawrence. “Yamaha of Troy built me a bike that should have been on the overall podium and I didn’t put it there. I’ve got no excuses and plan on coming back next year and making the overall podium.”
