$25,000 sweep won’t occur this year with Ricky Carmichael gone, but the race for $5,000 total points bonus in each class is heated to a boil!
CORONA, Calif., (Aug. 23, 2007) – The mega $100,000 Monster Energy/Kawasaki Triple Crown of Motocross will conclude this weekend at the Monster Energy/Kawasaki Pro Motocross National at Steel City Raceway (Delmont, Pa.) with a bevy of both AMA Motocross class and AMA Motocross Lites class racers vying for $10,000 in bonus money.
“Monster Energy’s accounting department breathed a sigh of relief when it became apparent that RC wouldn’t be racing for his third-consecutive $25,000 Monster Energy/Kawasaki Triple Crown of Motocross,” said Monster Energy spokesman Scott Sepkovic. “Still, there’s a guaranteed ten grand on the line at Steel City for the two racers that have the most overall points after the three Monster Energy/Kawasaki Triple Crown rounds.”
Here’s where it stands with the $5,000 Monster Energy bonus, part of the 2007 Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross’ final round at Steel City (Pa.)
AMA Motocross class ($5,000 Monster Energy/Kawasaki bonus)
Rider High Point RedBud Total Points
Tim Ferry 38 36 74
Mike Alessi 23 40 63 (-11)
Grant Langston 30 30 60 (-14)
Kevin Windham 29 26 55 (-19)
David Vuillemin 23 23 46 (-28)
Note: Ricky Carmichael has 97 points after High Point & RedBud, but has elected not to race Steel City. This means Ferry would have to score 23 points at Steel City to win the $5,000 bonus (tie goes to Ferry with the best Steel City finish). Also, James Stewart, who is “questionable” for this Sunday at Steel City, has 91 points. So if Stewart decides to race, at 91 points he would be the favorite to win the $5,000 Monster bonus.
AMA Motocross Lites class ($5,000 Monster Energy/Kawasaki bonus)
Rider High Point RedBud Total Points
Ryan Villopoto 44 50 94
Josh Grant 45 38 83 (-11)
Ben Townley 36 44 80 (-14)
Jason Lawrence 35 35 70 (-24)
Jake Weimer 30 32 62 (-32)
Thomas Hahn 31 30 61 (-33)
In addition, two privateer racers are also in the hunt for a solid bonus from Monster and Kawasaki for placing as the highest privateer at Steel City.
“Along with being the title sponsor of the Steel City event, the final round of the third-annual $100,000 Monster Energy/Kawasaki Triple Crown of Motocross will definitely add and additional element of excitement to the weekend,” said John Lee, Sports Marketing Director for Monster Energy. “It’s going to be quite a weekend in Pittsburgh!”
Finally, to hot wire the crowd even more, Monster Energy and Kawasaki will be giving away a Pro Circuit-tuned Kawasaki KLX110 pit bike (valued at $3,000) to on lucky Steel City race fan. Persons can enter to win at the Monster Energy motor coach on Saturday and Sunday. Again, all that said, Monster & Kawasaki can’t print money fast enough to help promote and support the AMA MX Nationals!
