Nick Wey Announces Sponsors For '07 Competition Seasons
MDK Motorsports, Honda, MSR, Bell helmets and Scott USA head up the list of MX industry companies backing Wey for the upcoming competition season
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Dec. 1, 2006) – As perennial SX championship front runner Nick Wey puts in the final practice laps in preparation for this weekend’s opening round of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP in Toronto, work’s already been done in aligning Wey with some of the top names in the motocross business.
Here’s who’s got Wey’s back.
Starting with MDK Motorsports, Wey is beginning his third year with the company that boasts a 30-year background in aerospace engineering and has applied that to advancing motocross technology – especially with the new four-stroke engines.
“I can’t say enough about the bike that MDK delivers for me every race weekend,” said Wey. “From the motor to the suspension, I’m always confident that I’ll have the most competitive bike possible thanks to MDK.”
Wey will again this year be aboard the MDK-tuned Honda CRF450R. One of Honda’s most consistent AMA Supercross class racers in recent years, throw out his knee injury recovery year of 2005 and Wey has run with the very few that make up the top five overall, especially in supercross where he’s placed no worse than 5th (2006 & 2004) in the past three years - including fourth overall in 2003.
“Honda’s been a good match with MDK,” says Wey. “I look forward to running the CRF again this year. The bike’s well- balanced, responds properly to every situation you put it in and gives me the confidence I need to push towards the front – even if I pull a bad start.”
Wey will be clad head to toe, as you’ve no doubt seen in the magazines, again this year by MSR (Malcolm Smith Racing). “Dave Casella, Randy Valade and the guys at MSR hook it up real well,” said Wey. “I’m pumped to be wearing their gear again this year and hope to put up some good results for them through out the season.”
Providing the protection up top for Wey this year will be Bell Helmets. The longtime motorsports helmet maker and industry leader will add yet another layer of confidence for Wey in the high wire act of supercross.
“I ran Bell for years when I was kid, definitely good to be back with them,” said Wey.
And wrapped around that Bell helmet will always be a fresh set of goggles, courtesy of Scott USA. “With Bevo (Forti) on my side the view of the front of the pack will no doubt be clear.”
Rounding out the 2007 sponsor list for Wey this year will be again be the cutting edge skate shoe company, Etnies. “Gotta work on my Ollies,” laughed Wey, along with energy drink company Xyience providing the beverages for the MDK Motorsports team.
