Nick Wey Hits the Jackpot in Vegas as Top-Finishing Privateer
AURORA, Ill. (May 8 , 2006) – Nick Wey, of Dewitt, Mich., earned top
finishing privateer honors for the 2005-’06 Amp’d Mobile World
Supercross GP championship and was awarded a new 2006 Toyota Tundra, a
2006 Weekend Warrior Supercross Edition trailer courtesy of Giant RV
and $25,000 from US Smokeless Tobacco Company.
Wey, who rides for the MDK Motorsports Honda Team, finished inside the
top 11 at all 17 races, the top five at nine races and on the podium at
three races. Wey finished fifth in the final point standings in both
the Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP and the Amp’d Mobile AMA
Supercross Series.
“This was my goal coming into the season,” said Wey. “This has been an
amazing season, and to walk away with the Toyota Truck, $25,000 from
UST and a trailer from Weekend Warrior is the perfect ending to the
season.”
“This has been a great Supercross season for Toyota,” said Doug
Frisbie, manager, events and promotions for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A.,
Inc. “From the Toyota Rider Lounge offering privateer support to
the truck award program, Toyota’s thrilled to give back to such an
amazing sport. We are excited to be part of this family and are
already looking forward to more great stuff for the riders and the fans
in 2007.”
The US Smokeless Tobacco Company awarded $15,000 to Honda’s Jason
Thomas, of Melrose, Fla., and $10,000 to Honda’s Jeff Gibson, of
Blacklick, Ohio, the second and third place finishers respectively in
Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP.
“We at U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company are proud to support the U.S.
Smokeless Tobacco Company Pro Privateer Challenge and congratulate Nick
Wey on capturing the 2006 Championship and the $25,000 first prize,”
said Jody Deal, brand manager, USSTC.
Last year Suzuki-backed Tyler Evans, of Corona, Calif., picked up top
finishing privateer honors, Honda-backed Damon Huffman, of Valencia,
Calif., was second and Honda-backed Jason Thomas, of Melrose, Fla., was
third.
