Unbound Energy’s Reed On Podium Again – His 11th Top Three This Year!
Eleven times in 13 races against the world’s best Supercross racers, Unbound Energy’s Chad Reed continues to impress industry experts and expand his already sizeable fan base
CARLSBAD, Calif., (April 3, 2006) – Unbound Energy-backed, Yamaha-riding Chad Reed parlayed a solid 2nd place finish in heat No. 1 to qualify for last Saturday’s Supercross main event in Houston, then powered his way to a 3rd place overall finish – his 11th podium
effort in 13 races this year on the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross
Series tour.
Reed now has a couple weeks to heal up a nagging shoulder injury
before the series resumes on April 22nd in Dallas. The likeable
Australian racer is in the midst of a heated battle for 2nd place
overall in the premier AMA Supercross class with rival James Stewart, who won at Houston. Heading into Dallas Reed has a five point lead over Stewart, 269-264, with three races remaining on the schedule.
“James is racing real well and these last couple races I’ve been
doing my best just to hang in there and score as many points as I
can,” said Reed, the 2004 Supercross champion. “We’ve got a
couple weeks now where we can focus on getting healthy for the final three-race push. A lot can happen in those three races and I not only want to stay ahead of James, but also have myself in a position to win the overall title.
Unbound Energy’s Nick Wey is also in a heated battle as the season
winds down. The tour’s top non-factory racer, Wey (MDK Motorsports) finished in 8th place at Houston and saw a bit of his points lead over factory Kawasaki’s Michael Byrne chipped away – which now stands at 198 -197 for fifth place overall.
“Not one of my better efforts this year,” said Wey of his 8th at
Houston. “I didn’t get the greatest start (11th), Byrne did (3rd)
and it cost me.”
Leading the Unbound Energy/Moto XXX team this past weekend was Josh Summey. Summey, who finished 6th overall in the AMA Lites class at Houston, wound up 11th overall in the Eastern Regional Lites standings – just two points out of the top ten. Summey was the
second-highest Eastern Lites placer that missed two events – right
behind factory KTM’s Jay Marmont (10th overall).
On top for Unbound Energy/Moto XXX in the premier AMA Supercross class again this past weekend was Tim “Red Dog” Ferry. Ferry recorded his fifth-consecutive top ten finish (9th). Watch for he and Ryan Clark to engage in a battle for 8th place overall in the
Supercross class standings with three races remaining on the season.
The Unbound Energy-backed racers return to action two weeks when Round 14 of the 2006 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series remains in Texas at Dallas’ Texas Stadium. Action gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
