Sanders Clinic And Its Role In The Houston Supercross
MX Doctor and Official Healthcare Provider of the Houston Supercross, Mark Sanders Gears up for the Upcoming Event to Keep Riders in the Race
Top rider Jeff Dement Represents Sanders Clinic and Champions its Stay Strong Approach
HOUSTON - Dr. Mark Sanders of the Sanders Clinic for Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine is an MX rider who knows what’s it’s like when injuries take riders off the bike. The official healthcare provider of the Houston Supercross spends much of his time telling young riders how to avoid injury by staying strong and healthy - and veterans how to get back faster when an injury takes them down.
A longtime supporter of Houston motocross – sponsoring local teams and track events – Dr. Sanders hosts health forums on four motocross websites and touches base with many of his patients when he’s out riding himself.
And while athletes of various sports come to the Sanders Clinic from across the United States, he considers himself part of a “brotherhood” among motocross riders – many of whom have his cell phone number on their speed dial.
Dr. Sanders and the Sanders Clinic have been the official healthcare provider of the Houston Supercross for two years now and in 2005 entered into a partnership agreement with internationally revered rider Jeff Dement, who took 11th place at the recent Daytona Supercross and 10th in the Orlando Supercross that followed.
“These guys have the spirit of a real athlete. It’s easy to get them back on their bike after an injury, because their motivated to do so. There’s no reconditioning program too aggressive for them – if they know it will get them back to their sport,” said Dr. Sanders.
“The Houston Supercross is a great time to talk to young riders about staying in top form and riding to avoid injury. When a patient is strong and healthy, they’re able to avoid what could be more serious injuries when accidents happen - and the recovery time of the injuries they do incur is cut in half,” Sanders added.
Renowned for his accelerated reconditioning program and advanced ACL reconstructions, which get athletes back to their sport in three months, Dr. Sanders is sought by injured athletes during their off season to ensure they’ll be ready for the next.
His program bucks traditional practice - raising eyebrows in the medical community and earning praise by athletes getting back in the race, or the game, in half the time.
“Dr. Sanders’ passion for our sport is evident. He understands athletes and doesn’t even try to discourage us from doing the sport we love - like we hear too often. He’s out their riding and doing all kinds of sports himself, and he gets it,” said motocross racer Adam Hamza, former Sanders Clinic patient.
“I have a lot of respect for Dr. Sanders’ philosophy on overall health and well-being and the role it plays in fast recoveries. That’s why we’ve teamed up in this sport. I’ve been racing professionally for years and know the toll it can take on your body. Good conditioning is key,” said Jeff Dement, who recently appeared on the cover of HoleShot magazine.
Dr. Sanders was listed among H Texas magazine’s Top Docs in 2004 and 2005 and listed among Top Texas Healthcare Professionals in the 2006 edition of Medicine Men – Legends, Innovators and Healers. Learn more at www.sandersclinic.net.
