Red Dog’s New Ride
Former Supercross Lites Champion Joins Moto XXX
Believe it or not, it’s been a full decade since Team Moto XXX first
put its mark on the American motocross scene. Since then, everyone’s
favorite underdogs have been overachieving on a consistent basis. From
winning Supercross main events and Nationals to holeshotting the
factories every week, the Honda-backed squad apparently knows no
limits. Now, after already announcing the formidable lineup of Kyle
Lewis, Juss Lansoo and Josh Summey for the 2005-2006 season, Moto XXX
is excited to officially add former AMA Supercross Lites champion Tim
Ferry’s name to that list.
Ferry will compete in the AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross series
aboard the mighty Honda CRF450R. Even though it’s been more than ten
years since he’s ridden red, “Red Dog” is excited about the
proposition. “Even though I’ve only been riding a Honda for a few weeks
now, I really like the bike,” he says. “I’m very happy to be with Moto
XXX this year, because I think they’ve got one of the best bikes on the
track. I know how many holeshots Kyle Lewis gets and I can’t wait to
line up with that kind of power.”
Unfortunately, Ferry has been plagued by injuries over the past few
seasons. Late last summer, he had knee and wrist surgeries just two
weeks apart. Finally, he’s getting back to where he wants to be. “My
goal is to get back to where I was before all of these injuries,” he
explains. “I always had to rush back too soon and ended up making
things worse. That’s why I’ve taken so much time off to heal now. I
plan to be very strong come Anaheim and I think I’ll get even better as
the season progresses.”
It’s no secret just how harsh and unemotional the sport of motocross
can be. Riders are usually judged by their most recent results. Because
he missed so many races in 2005, Ferry wasn’t seriously approached by
the factories for 2006. He’s no stranger to the factory-to-privateer
transition. In fact, after winning his first Supercross championship
several years ago, he found himself in the privateer pits the very next
season. While he understands the way things work, he’s found motivation
in his situation. “I definitely feel like I have something to prove,”
he states. “It’s like, because I’ve had a couple of unlucky seasons, no
one thinks I can ride anymore. I really appreciate the fact that Moto
XXX believes in me. I feel the same about the team and it’s going to be
a great season.”
