2006 Legends of American Motocross Calendar Available
Veteran motojournalist Charlie Morey announced today that his 2006
Legends of American Motocross Calendar is available at the
print-on-demand website, Lulu.com. Morey captured the formative years
of professional motocross in the United States while working as a
freelance photographer and in editorial positions for Cycle News
Newspaper (1974-1981) and Dirt Rider Magazine (Morey was the founding
editor and worked there from 1982-1996).
Fourteen of the Charlie's favorite black-and-white pictures are used in
the 26-page 8-1/2" x 11" calendar. On two of the months, vertical
format is used with two side-by-side images per page.
"The years I spent working with professional motocross riders were
among the richest experiences of my lifetime," Morey reminisces. "We
were all young, fit and eager to win, whether the game was motorcycle
racing or getting the story out first with top-quality photography."
"Looking back on it now, motojournalism provided me with the
opportunity to travel the world, to become acquainted with the best
people I've ever had the pleasure to meet, and to express my visual
creativity through a thrilling, dynamic medium."
One of Charlie's legendary images, The Jammer, which depicts "Jammin'
Jimmy" Weinert slamming into "Tony D" DiStefano at the 1974 Highland
Hills AMA 500cc National Championship event, was honored in 2004 by
Racer X Illustrated Magazine. Racer X inducted the image into the Racer
X Hall of Fame and presented the picture on its February 2004 cover and
in posters. Today, the image graces the cover and the month of January
in the calendar.
Morey has retired from motorsports photography and now creates and
sells fine art photography prints on his website and as a resident
artist at the Infusion Gallery in downtown Los Angeles.
Morey's 2006 Legends of American Motocross Calendar is available for $14.99 at the URL below:
