Ten Minutes With
ADAM Cianciarulo
Elsewhere in this issue we run down the big moments in Adam Cianciarulo’s racing career. But what does he think about it? We ask AC to reflect on his own journey.
Racer X: I mention this in the story. You grew up with people saying you were the next Carmichael, Stewart, Villopoto. But did you ever say that yourself?
Adam Cianciarulo: No. I never went through a phase where I was a cocky kid and I was full of myself. I think the way that I worked as an amateur, with my dad, the main point of focus was to not get complacent. The main focus was always on what was coming next. In a way, I was never in the moment. As a kid, I was just out there doing what I loved, which was riding a dirt bike, and I just won a lot, and people were stoked on me, so I wanted to keep doing it. I remember, gosh, I think it might have been Cycle News or Motocross Action. In 2005, they put an article out that was titled something like “Carmichael, McGrath, Stewart…Cianciarulo?” And I remember looking at that and being like, “I’m eight years old.”
