The Big One
Every season it seems like we see at least one or two big pileups off the start in AMA Pro Motocross. No matter how much crash-proofing the track builders try to do, it’s still 40 speeding motorcycles with competitive riders trying to simultaneously squeeze into the same first turn. This crash happened in the second 450 Class moto at Hangtown, on the far outside of the relatively short start stretch. Modern advancements have made the bikes faster than ever off the starts, and the new metal starting grates have evened things out more as well. Caught up in this chain-reaction crash were Hawaii’s Grant Harlan (78), Michigan’s Chris Prebula (995), Maryland’s Maxwell Sanford (162), New Jersey’s Corey Carsten (281), California’s own Colby Copp (645), and more. Fortunately, there weren’t any serious injuries—unless you count the hay bales that were smashed and then caught on fire!
