102 w/ the Bullet
Since the conclusion of his epic Grand Prix career in 2006, Belgium’s Stefan Everts held two seemingly unbreakable records: Most FIM World Championships (10), and most FIM Grand Prix wins (101). Seventeen years the former still stands, but his standard for all-time wins has now fallen to Jeffrey Herlings. The Red Bull KTM rider known as “the Bullet” shattered the record at the MXGP of Spain, where he went 1-1 for his third win of the season. However, the 28-year-old Dutchman only has five world titles to date, as injuries have ended several title chases prematurely over the years. Even now, having won more than half the races in the early going of ’23, Jeffrey had yet to wear the red plate as points leader this season. Stefan Everts will always be considered the King of Motocross in Europe, but Herlings’ “fastest man on the planet” badge is well-deserved.
