Dakota Tedder is having a pretty good year. He made two 450SX main events in Monster Energy Supercross and has qualified for every Lucas Oil Pro Motocross race this year, including two top-20 overall finishes.
Some of this improvement can be attributed to the training/mentoring of Nick Wey, who rode for Team Tedder/Monster Energy Kawasaki for part of 2016. Wey retired after riding for the team and stuck around to help Dakota with his training during the week.
This past weekend, the student and teacher both lined up on the gate at RedBud and wouldn't you know it, they actually battled on the track for a couple laps in the second moto. Tedder won that battle and the war as he tied his season best finish with a 19th overall; Wey finished 22nd.
I fired up my thumbs and texted Tedder to talk about what it was like battling with his mentor and to see how the rest of his season has gone for this less formal version of Privateer Profile.
