I’ll never understand the mentality of 250 teams choosing not to tell the fans and media which rider is doing which coast. “They” say the main reason is because they want all the riders to be ready January 1 in case there’s an injury and they have to switch the roster around. I get that—injuries happen. But you can still tell your riders to be ready in case there’s an injury while at the same time declaring your East/West rosters, right?
I mean, why would you want the fans and media debating each coast, being interested in who could do what, and mentioning your teams and sponsors in stories and podcasts? That’s just plain silly (insert eye-rolling emoji here).
But you’re all in luck. I’ve texted with some teams and riders, I have spies in the race shops and I think we’ve put together a pretty good list of which riders are doing which coasts. Now, of course this isn’t 100 percent accurate and things could change, but here we go.
