Lucas Oil Pro Motocross: Inside the Numbers

June 18, 2015 4:50pm | by:

After five rounds of competition, the 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will observe its first of three off weekends over the course of the summer. The 12-round season has enjoyed tremendous competition thus far, with the depth of talent across both the 450 Class and 250 Class being showcased. With five rounds and 10 motos complete, the statistics surrounding each rider's performance thus far tells the story of how the championship is shaping up.

450 Class

  • The three-rider Autotrader.com/Toyota/Yamaha squad currently has each of its riders inside the top 10 in the championship. Each of those riders has also finished on the podium in a moto this season.

  • Nine different riders have earned a moto podium finish so far this season.

  • Ryan Dungey is the only rider to provide all of a manufacturer's top finishes this season.

  • Dungey is the only rider to finish inside the top 10 in every moto thus far and is the only rider to finish on the overall podium at every round, which is why he boasts the best average in qualifying, starts and finishes among active riders in the top 10.

  • Despite an average start of 7.1, Ken Roczen has been impressive in making passes and has the second-best average finish in the top 10, with a start to finish ratio of 2.4. He has done well to amass consistency after beginning the season with a 19th-place moto result.

  • Jason Anderson's recent surge has vaulted his finishing average to 8.6 despite a starting average of 10.5. He is passing nearly two riders a moto on average (+1.9). He also has three overall podium finishes in his first five career premier class starts.

  • Justin Barcia has the third-best starting average in the premier class amongst the top 10 and the most holeshots, but several instances of misfortune has resulted in a 7.9 finishing average and a start to finish ratio of -1.4.

  • Christophe Pourcel is the second-best qualifier this season, but ranks seventh among the top 10 in average starts and is the ninth-best finisher. His start to finish ratio is nearly a loss of one spot (-0.7).

  • Broc Tickle's tenacity this season is evidenced by the largest start to finish ratio in the top 10 at +4.8.

  • Phil Nicoletti's consistency out of the gate has led him to the fifth-best average amongst the top 10, pushing him to a 12.4 finishing average and 10th in the championship standings.

  • Eli Tomac was averaging an incredible 1.8 staring average prior to injury. Despite missing the last four motos, and 70 laps of competition, he still has the most laps led in the championship.

250 Class

  • Each of Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's three riders have enjoyed at least one moto podium this season. Two of the three - Chris Alldredge and Adam Cianciarulo - have earned overall podium finishes.

  • Suzuki's lone manufacturer point came from privateer Brandon Scharer, who finished 20th in the second moto at Thunder Valley.

  • KTM is the only manufacturer to sweep an overall podium this season, at Glen Helen, marking the first time in the brand's history it had ever done so.

  • Jeremy Martin is the only rider in the 250 Class to finish inside the top 10 in each moto thus far. As a result, he has the best finishing average amongst the top 10 despite a 9.9 starting average that ranks him fifth. His ability to work through the field is why he has the highest start to finish ratio at +7.2.

  • Given Martin's ability to finish strong, Marvin Musquin's class leading six moto wins are ultimately why he sits atop the championship standings.

  • Jessy Nelson is the best starter in the division, which has played a major role in his ability to record the third-best finishing average in the top 10 and currently sit third in the standings.

  • Adam Cianciarulo has the third-best qualifying average at 2.1, but has a starting average of 8.8. He's shown an ability to make passes, with a start to finish ratio of +1.5.

  • Joey Savatgy is also a strong qualifier with a 3.0 qualifying, but his 9.5 starting average and some instances of misfortune have resulted in a 9.4 finishing average.

  • Given his two moto podium finishes this season, Alex Martin has the speed to be a consistent threat but early misfortune has dropped his starting average to 14.6 and his finishing average to 10.1, but his pace is still evident by his +4.5 start to finish ratio.

  • Shane McElrath has done considerable work to earn his position inside the top 10, overcoming a starting average of 17.4, worst in the top 10, to boast a start to finish ratio of +7.1 and an average finish of 10.3.

  • Matt Bisceglia has had similar efforts, fighting his way from a 16.3 starting average to earn a finishing average of 10.4 with a start to finish ratio of +5.9.

  • The 250 Class boasts 11 different moto podium finishers and eight different lap leaders thus far. Seven different riders have finished on the overall podium.

  • Musquin and Martin have combined to lead 87 percent of the laps this season.
