“It is really fun,” said Marvin Musquin to me after the race. “I was actually thinking about the fans watching on TV.”
What? Here’s the points leader in 250SX East, right in the middle of a huge battle for the victory, and he’s thinking about the fans?
“I’m just kind of the guy that thinks about a lot of things when I ride,” he explained.
We’ve heard time and time again that a boring race is good for someone—the guy who is leading it—but Marvin was happy to be part of this show this time, even though he didn’t get the win.
“Last weekend I was by myself on the lead so…yeah, nothing happened,” he explained. “But I wish it’s this way every weekend. I was like, “Dude, that’s some great racing!” We got to make some passes. It was an exciting race, that’s for sure. It was kind of cool to see Martin Davalos leading and Justin Bogle, [Jeremy] Martin, all four of us. I think it was nice to watch.”
Musquin is a strong candidate for this championship, and also for “nicest guy in the pits.” So maybe this is just a Marvin thing. Armed with this info, knowing he was so happy with the action, I wanted to see if the actual race winner felt the same way.
“I did,” said Jeremy Martin. “I thought about it in the main event. I was right behind Marvin and I was like, ‘Wow, this has got to be one cool race to watch!’”
Amazing!
Okay, it was a great, fun battle, and Martin gets to leave with a victory and Marvin already got one last week, so they both had reasons to be happy! Then I circled to the third rider on the podium, one who hasn’t gotten a win this year yet.
Hey, Justin Bogle, did you know that was a really fun race to watch?
“Yeah, that’s what I heard,” he said with a laugh. “I just wanted to win it.”
