Headed North: Chisholm to Race in Canada
Press Release
Rockstar Energy/OTSFF/Yamaha is pleased to announce the signing of 26-year-old Kyle Chisholm for the 2014 CMRC Motocross Nationals as Bobby Kiniry’s MX1 teammate.
Chisholm, who hails from Clearwater, Florida, is no stranger to the Canadian motocross scene. In 2005, his debut year, he snared runner-up in the MX2 East Championship. He stepped up to the plate to nail down the title in 2006.
“We’re very happy to have Kyle aboard for next season. He’s a proven entity with an MX2 championship behind him and we’re convinced he’ll be a contender in MX1. He’s familiar with our tracks, he likes racing in Canada, and he’s a crowd favourite because of his no-nonsense get down to business racing style,” team owner Andre Laurin said.
Back home in the U.S. the quiet, unassuming Chisholm has been a consistent performer in the AMA Outdoor Nationals Lites class with top-10 finishes. Chisholm also found some success in the East Region of the Supercross Lites series. On an international scale, as recently as 2011 Chisholm won the prestigious triple-header Paris Bercy Supercross.
“I’m definitely excited to be returning to Canada and to be racing with one of the country’s top teams. I have a lot of good memories from the two years I raced there and I’m looking forward to making new ones,” Chisholm said. “My goal is, of course, to win the championship. It’s been a while since I was in Canada, but I know more or less what to expect. I know it’s not going to be an easy task going up against the likes of Metcalfe, my teammate Bobby, and the top Canadians, but I wouldn’t be going back if I didn’t think I couldn’t win.”
In addition to Bobby Kiniry, Shawn Maffenbeier will return to the team for another season. Maffenbeier will again campaign the MX2 Championship, a class he is considered to be a major title contender in; a fact he proved by winning the final round of the 2013 season.
