Peters, Hayes Big Winners at Muddy Creek
BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. – The 26th annual Suzuki Top Gun Showdown at Muddy Creek Raceway ended with a bang Sunday, closing out the season-ending Thor Mega Series Championship season in style.
It was a beautiful, crisp day for the throng of riders competing in the 16th and final round of the Mega Series Championship and it was a particularly rewarding day for a pair of Muddy Creek regulars.
Jacob Hayes once again ruled the dirt, winning three of four events in the 450 Pro class while Kyle Peters was top dog in the 250 Pro class.
The 19-year-old Hayes, who hails from Greensboro, N.C., won one race on Saturday, was runner-up in the other and came back on Sunday to capture both races.
In the first 450 race yesterday, it was Alexander O’dell who jumped out to the lead on a holeshot before Kyle Peters grabbed the lead on the bottom straightaway of the course. He didn’t hold the point long though before Hayes jumped him on a uphill bomber triple to take the lead for good with Heath Harrison finishing in the second spot.
A holeshot put Hayes out front from start to finish in the second 450 race with Harrison once again taking the runner-up slot.
This is the fourth straight year Hayes has dominated the 450 class at the Top Gun Showdown. Also a big winner in both 2010 and 2012 in the 250 class, he finished today’s action with a pair of runner-up showings.
The 20-year-old Peters, who finished third and fourth, respectively, in 450 action, dominated both 250 races Sunday, winning on holeshots.
A total of 42 championships were decided by this weekend’s action at Muddy Creek. Complete points championship results will be posted at http://www.victory-sports.com/points/2013%20points/Mega%20Points.htm.
