Waffle House Open Pro Shootout Series
By Keith Monti
On November 1st Hog Heaven MX in Godwin, NC kicks of the first of three rounds of the Waffle House Open Pro Shootout Series with a total of $48,000 in purse and prizes up for grabs across the three race series. Last year’s single race Open Pro Shootout at Hog Heaven MX was attended by the likes of Cooper Webb, Shane McElrath, Alex Martin, Robby Marshall and many others.
Born of a desire to bring big names and pro level racing back to the southeast Hog Heaven MX in Godwin, NC, The Jimmy Weinert Training Facility in Maysville, NC, County Line MX in Bolton, NC and Waffle House have teamed up to grow this event from a single race at Hog Heaven, MX to a three race series with an unbelievable $48,000 total purse up for grabs, with $1,000 per moto win in the Pro classes.
Owned by Richard Eason, Hog Heaven MX opened two and a half years ago inspired by his son Dillon’s newfound passion for motocross, walking away from his woods riding roots. Now 16, Richard’s son Dillon will be putting his name on the line with the best racers in the country competing in both 450A and 250A. When asked about lining up against some of the biggest names out there Dillon could only manage “it’s kinda scary, top 5? I don’t know, top 10? Yeah, I think I can run top 10.”
For the Pros who don’t have the budget or the means to make big events like the Monster Energy Cup this series provides three incredible opportunities for the Pro’s to make a solid payday and keep their game sharp against some of the fastest riders around. For those of us wishing for some great racing to watch, our calls are answered.
Last year’s race was dominated by battles between then amateur standouts Cooper Webb and Shane McElrath and provided some amazing racing for the huge crowd.
