Your Collection: CR500R RJ Replica
This week's collection comes to us from Jamie Conard.
A few years ago, I wanted to find something old school to put my time into. I really wanted a late 1980's machine as this was the time I became heavily involved in the sport as a teenager. I still remember in the spring of 1989, being at Dutrow's Honda in Frederick, MD with my father watching them uncrate an '89 500 and assembling it thinking "Man, what an awesome machine!
So, in late 2006 I found a clapper on eBay and began work. I quickly became addicted to looking for parts on eBay. I took it all the way down to the frame, had it powder coated and slowly built it back up. In late 2009 I finished, and after much money and sweat it was finished. Man does it sound sweet and runs just as well. 1989 was the first year for upside forks, lowboy pipe and sleek body work. I just think it is a good looking year. I really miss two strokes and the 500 nationals...1989 was the first year of the Budds Creek national and my first as well. I have such good memories from that day. I have also included a picture before the restoration, and a link to YouTube when we started it for the first time.
