A job well done sir. I had the 76 model your 78 looks unchanged from that

The 78 125s were out of date by then. You couldn't let the bike go unchanged for 2 years in that era. If you spent enough on trick parts, they could still be competitive.

Nice job on the restoration. The number 9 is a good touch.

Sweet! I had an '85 CR125 - was my favorite bike of all time. Man, I bet finding an exhaust without dings/dents is tough with that design on the '78! Very nice looking restoration - I hope you still plan on taking that thing for a spin now and then.

My brother had one of these things. We put an aftermarket ignition on it (motec? or something like that) and it would rev to a million RPM. These engines had the "boost port" in the back of the cylinder which I think was the optional "GP" barrel for the older 74's. It had no bark or punch coming out of tight corners .... it would just rev out like a road race bike. It was very fast on a track with lots of straights but a lot of work to get around a tight course. Suspension and handling were average at best. The RM Suzuki's ruled in this era .... this bike was an old design at the end of its design life. The 74's were way ahead of their competitors (and an awesome bike) .... 4 years later this design was a dinosaur ... even with the shocks moved up and beefier forks.

I had a '76 and loved it. That stock stamped swingarm, however, was a piece of junk.

To me this was the sexiest era. Got too busy with linkage and water cooling. had a 76 rm 125 it was a skank ! Broke in two and tore my face up. just like my sons first wife.did him.up to 74 they were boring.this bike is a beauty.

Why are the clyinder finns bigger than the head finns? Is that the wrong year head or something?

Thanks for all the comments, next one will be a 1976 KTM400.
By the way, this Honda will be raced at High Point Vintage Nationals this year.
Got hooked on the vintage stuff by Todd Streit, left me race his David Bailey replica at High Point last year. Thanks Todd! This Honda is also for sale, contact me for details at 724-561-9474. Thanks.

Hey Denny,
Can you share some information on the "High Point Vintage Nationals"? I didn't see anything on the High Point Raceway web site.
Thx.

btw: Cool bike from a cool era in our sport.

Yeah, it's the appropriate head for that year. Last year September 22-23 was the 22nd annual DC Vet Weekend at High Point. This year it should be the second week of September for the 23 Annual " Vet Weekend " .

Look at the 6th and 7th pictures. You can tell how light that bike is. Two strokes are so much lighter and more fun to ride than four strokes.

I googled a bunch of pictures of 1978 cr125.That is not the correct head. That head must be for a 1974 or maybe a mt125.All the pictures that I saw the head matched the clyinder finns.

To Speedshifter.... Your comment fits so perfectly in the vintage of that bike! Modern day though, sure 2 strokes are lighter and I'll give you the fun factor too, but if you're racing a 2 stroke against 4 strokes, you're putting yourself at a pretty big disadvantage! And lastly, a modern 4 stroke is WAY more fun to ride that any 2 stroke from the 70s! But the old bikes are more fun to look at....
