Boots, Boards and Backpacks
Thursday, January 31, 2013 | 12:50 PMAs any listener to the Pulpmx Show knows one of the things that drive me nuts is the mechanics of the sport getting more and more loaded down with crap that doesn't matter. I was a mechanic for 11 years for various teams and have seen this evolution just get weirder and weirder. There's nothing you can do to a bike in a supercross race that you need a backpack full of tools and parts for. Bring the basics in a small simple fanny pack and you're good.

I'm normally a fan of Matthes' work, but this was pathetic. Overall, I'd say he failed to prove any point, as most disagreed with him.
I think the boots are silly.. If you want to pack the ground buy a good quality work boot.. I have two pair, both made by Thorogood--and they are more comfortable than my gym shoes.. I wear them 8 to 10 hours a day and have never gotten a blister.. Dont know what shoe these guys wear, but I wouldnt wear a moto boot all day for nothing, thats silly.. A good work boot would be perfect..
I agree Pitbull--this was funny, good read..
Well, almost no one agrees with Matthes on this. The boots, it's an industry thing, they kinda look like riding boots, with pants, not bad, without, kinda gay, unless your a swimsuit model. The backpacks, I saw on the broadcast right before the start Milsaps put his jacket in the backpack, so bam!! Plus fanny packs are gay, unless you're a Euro, which Matthes is Canadian, so close enough. My question is what did Matthes do with his rider's jackets back in the day, did you tie them around your waist? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! The pit boards in practice is a bit stupid to me though. I mean they pull off a bunch, but maybe if you needed your rider to come in for something, maybe, but that's a stretch.
