6th on a stock bike (for him) ..... I think Dungey and Reed should be ashamed.... This guy hasn't got nearly the machine under him as they have and he nets a 6th. And Im a Reed and Dungey fan.... sad but true.

Short got lucky, but then thats racing, and on a STOCK bike, well that shows why racing is expensive for no reason, just like it was 25 years ago when the bike were just about one offs ! The racing organizations need to go back to just stock, but then how would Mitch Payton make any money ?

That's why you see lots of privateers riding 450s, especially outdoors. It would be much harder for a rider to be competitive on a stock 250 as they have them rung out all the time.

450s are too big a factory 450 motor is competitive with an off the shelf motor.

In the 90's would this be possible on a stock 250 with kit suspension..... No way!

Lites should be 150, supercross should be 275 or 300. Or go all electric..... Start from scratch.

This to me is the problem with Shorty. The guy wins his first race out of a van in SLC last season. This season has afactory Honda and gets 6th then rides a stock bike out of a and gets..6th? A $40000 bike with a semi or a 10000 bike out of a van and the same results? Does not make sense. Like his style or not Brooks said it best on the episode of Inside the Outdoors, Shorty's biggest problem is in between his ears. He rides harder when he is riding with no Factory pressure.

Pay attention. Stewart, Barcia out of the race. Weimer DNS. Reed back in 12th. Grant back in.....wherever he finished. Notice Friese, Alessi, Brayton, Goerke and the like had the rides of theior season so far. The fact that Short finished 6th does not mean it was the same 6th he got when they were all up battling with him. Check out who was 5th!!!!!!!!! SHould Short beat Alessi? Hell yeah. So putting some logic to it makes it make a bit more sense.

I'm paying attention and luck had nothing to do with it. First, he didn't give up, he grabbed whatever he could and raced it with no real preparation. Second, He had every reason to be discouraged and he didn't let it affect him. The between his ears stuff was working pretty good for him. Third, The second corner took a few fast guys out but it didn't take out shorty ! He could have gone down just as easy as Barcia or Stewart but he didbn't. Having said that, I think that shorty has what it takes to be a champion but he does not have the confidence he should have given his abilities. He can run with the fastest guys out there. Way to go Short!

Short is one of the classiest guys out there. I agree without the first turn pileup he may have been shuffled back a few spots but it was still a great ride. Not only was it a production based bike, but he had very limited seat time.
As far has beating Alessi goes Mike was having a great weekend before the main. His lap times were much more competitive. In his heat he was faster than Reed both for best lap and average.

nobody in the world is "lucky" enough to place 6th in 450 supercross

and anybody who says otherwise is a goddam moron

I say great job Shorty!! theres no way he was lucky.. First thing we should think of is WOW !! off the start with a Showroom floor bike and he's neck and neck with the top bikes with thousands of dollars poured into them. If anything he should have been dead last with a stock bike and stock suspension, and im a RV1 fan. Hope you get a ride Short!!

Andrew Short has had an amazingly consistant career. I don't remember a time where he was ever the fastest guy on the track (except for right out of the start gate and to the first corner). It was an awesome experience not only for him, but for fans as well to see him win last year in Seattle.

This past weekend was no execption to greatness - Props to Honda for making a very competitive production bike. You have to give Shorty all the credit in the world tohave the confidence to even try to race the fastest guys in the world on a bike that would inly be a disadvantage to him. Racing is racing, and Andrew short is a very credible racer. Congrats Shorty!

That's what I was thinking. Honda should capitalize on the situation, help him out and realize what a great thing Andrew has done for them. Imagine the ad campaign. I know the bike is not bone stock but it's more realistic to what we can get compared to wishing for a factory bike. Even if he had only finished top 10, that's an accomplishment and very respectable considering what he was competing against.
