With Dungey, Reed and Canard close in points, I don't think he can keep it unless he's really on another level like Dungey was in his first season 450's. Milsaps is a solid guy but I would think more consistently a 4th or 5th place guy on average. Villopoto is gonna come back and kill it I believe.

Dungey leaves with the plate

I don't think this question should be asked. It brings on negative energy. That being said, he was top 3 in qualifying at A1. Beat out be JS7 and RV2. If he gets a podium this weekend yes he will have the plate.

Dungey should be a little concerned.....podiums won't be so easy to come by this year....may have to change his game plan a little. We will see?

With all the "big players" outside the podium except for Dungey then he just needs to stay consistent to leave next weekend with the red plate. Pastrana called it and I think Davi really gels with the yellow bike. Huge Reed fan but its nice to get some different guys up there battling it out.

Every year there are comments about how hard it's gonna be for Dungey, yet he almost always ends up on the podium.

The red plate has proven to be very heavy. With that being said and all the weight Saps has lost (Ha ha) What was it this year 55 pounds? He will be back to his normal weight /self. All kidding aside he looked great out there and I hope he keeps it up. Stoked for Canard too. Barcia will podium this week, stamp it!

MEE TOO !!!! hope JS is going to be ok and RV as well, as far as Milsaps leaving pheonix with the red plate - he really stands a good chance of it if he can finish in the top 6.
RD and CR will be fine they will be bringing it all year- a lot of the top guys will be finishing races off the podium this year do to the tallant we have now, its something we are not used to

@ Jesus

I'll assume that since you're from BC you're probably high already...haha

Last year RD only had a few guys that were consistently faster than him to worry about. Based on what I saw Saturday you can throw Barcia, Canard and possibly Millsaps into that group. He needs to up the anti a bit! And as you could guess by my name....he's one of my favs.

Profile Picture
yamyblues wrote: 12:38pm January 7, 2013

YES and here's why!!!! I think he's fast enough to overcome a bad start and I put him top 5 ...with those points plus 25 and the fact that stew Barcia and for sure villo will mix points all around he will have a narrow margin and keep the red plate to rnd3....if villo wins and Barcia goes 2 points will really be scattered....and 40 points could be enough..I don't see a 400 point champion this year...all will be low and close

Definitely maybe. Why do we need to speculate?

.Thats right DungeyPoto..... . If RD gets a bad start it could be a BAD night. Also he fell ... Not RD like. Reed was WAY off pace all day. I said that would be the case last week but it was worce than I thought!!

Millsaps is visibly fit, visibly ready, and clearly motivated. He fought back and beat Canard and Dungey straight up -- two riders that were prepared (and not having mental meltdowns, like other riders.)

RV may beat him in Phoenix, but RV won't earn the red plate for quite a few.

Profile Picture
jeramey wrote: 1:02pm January 7, 2013

@ chowderhead yes I agree and he showed that by getting back by canard remember when dungey past him last year he just let him have it and I believe he led that whole race as well but I for sure thought he'd be done after canard got by and even pulled a gap for a minute

haha yes we all smoke weed here, it's actually just as casual as drinking. I'm high right and if I drove ten minutes across to washington I could buy it legally right now! Yes yes, it is awesome... Yes yes Seattle SX and Washougal will be extraordinary. I'm just looking forward to the next time I can ask a Seattle police officer where to buy weed!! So convenient.

Anyway, I don't think RD needs a gameplan change cause I don't see Millsaps podiuming weekly like RD continues to.

But eh, it's all to the good... I'm high right now at 10:18am.

Does anyone remember the interview with Team Suzuki's Mike Webb after they signed JS? I understood that he was saying that there was a lot of drama when Dungey was there and after signing James it was going to be a lot better. I'm not a JS hater at all, but I'm just wondering how that's going for him (Webb).....

@yamyblues - easy with the bold predictions . . . no racer has ever earned 400 points in a single SX season . . . ever.

Keeping the red plate is a function of competitors consistency . . . a bit too early for any logic there. Placing 3 points ahead of Canard in PHO, 5 points ahead of RD5, 6 points ahead of CR22, 7 points ahead of JW12, etc . . . probably 50/50. Was great to see Millsaps pass TC back, he earned the win no question. The interesting question now is . . . how many different race winners will we have this season? I had 5 before Saturday and Millsaps wasn't included, so is it 6 now or more?

JMFNB wrote: 2:00pm January 7, 2013

@PW29 I could not agree more.
This season will truly define the silly season. It is absolutely impossible to predict what and where it will happen. For weeks nobody mentioned Davi only if it was to talk about the "best of the rest" We are looking at what will surely be the best sx season EVER...EVER. Just waiting on the news for JS and RV. My money is still on BAM BAM got the jitters out and know he knows he can run with them.

Profile Picture
BillC wrote: 2:18pm January 7, 2013

I Don't know if "BAM BAM Knows" he can run with RV..... RV ran him down like nothing in the heat race. That has got to be in his head. RV was WAY WAY back in that one and if that was the last lap of the main and not a Heat race RV would have made the pass I believe.

Profile Picture
unclecarlito wrote: 2:55pm January 7, 2013

The best you could hope is to have a champion at the end of the season that did not win a single main event. Too bad heat races don't earn points....

Shepster wrote: 3:23pm January 7, 2013

I think we can add DM and JW to the front runners. CR will get better, RV has some work to do with only 5 points but that is only 7 firsts away from the Red plate if DM gets second every time, it can happen!! JS showed grit and played it smart and he is only 4 firsts away from the red plate, that can definitely happen too!!! TC shocked most of us, JB will progress as the jitters go away and Dungey will be Dungey!!! I do believe no one can, without a shadow of a doubt, tell us who will have the Red Plate after Chase Field!! Gonna be awesome!! CANNOT WAIT!!!

Profile Picture
carlsbad wrote: 4:08pm January 7, 2013

I like the idea that Milsaps is a (consistent) front-runner and I think he has it in him.

If we can get four brands in the winners circle (I just don't think Yamaha has a realistic chance), that would be an exciting year for EVERYBODY!

I doubt RV2 is going to crash 8 times again, so he'll get first place. Millsaps isn't faster than RV. Dungey is consistent so he'll get 2nd or 3rd.

Profile Picture
jacoba73 wrote: 7:21pm January 7, 2013

byrner99 if Dungey is "on average" a fourth place guy that will get him 306 points for the season - which, based on the level of depth this year will be good for a championship (if not, DAMN close). So no shame there. And DungeyPoto - although I can see from your name you're a fan, Dungey doesn't need to change his game plan at all. If anything, game plans like Reed's and Dungey's (podium week in, week out and take the win when it's on offer) will be at it's most effective ever this season. Those dudes stand a HUGE chance if they can execute their usual game plan this year. The only problem is that it's not like Vollopoto has proven to be inconsistent...

Of course he won't leave with the red plate. If history repeats its self, which it normally does, he will finish 17th. Great guy, great rider but not a champion.

I hope the red plate gets switched every week, and with this field of riders it could happen.

Profile Picture
carlsbad wrote: 11:17pm January 7, 2013

I see a few posters on here with no faith in Milsaps' new-found speed. I love underdogs, and I think I just found a new one.

He looked very smooth, fast and well within his comfort limits throughout the program. His bike is obviously good enough and he is talented enough to win A1 so, I don't see how he can be so easily discounted.

The red plate will be of added importance / significance this season, it's going to take a lot to hold on to it.

The "Black & Yellow" color scheme looked great too. So seldom we get to see those colors run anymore it seems.

Would be cool for DM but

I'd say Dungey

Profile Picture
dgizzy1 wrote: 12:15am January 8, 2013

Yea RV would kill it or go down trying to. FAST doesnt always win in SX. This yr we may see even more winners than 2011. Barcia, reed, canard, dungey and ofcourse Rv are gonna win at some point. may be even brayton. you just never know and thats why we go racing. Its just funny no one was overtaking its like how they started is how they would finish except for Barcia going down but really no magic at A1

That red plates gonna get passed around more than a Kardashian at a South Beach hoedown...don't think the win was a fluke ....i think RV's start was though...

It was Barcias very first ever indoor race on a 450- cant blame him for not smoking Villopoto in that heat race. His mechanic said he was nervous as shit.
