Looks like the Suzuki is the winner for 3 out of 4.
I think the average amateur would be better off buying a KTM 250SX and saving $1600. You get a better handling, 30 lb lighter, package that's cheaper to maintain in the long term. To make it even better spend a little of that $1600 on a 295cc big bore kit.
@texag...why not an excellent barely used unkillable 05-09 YZ250 2pop and save $4000....mostly because the Suzuki kicks A*S ..turns like a mutha and is a BLAST to ride...........and most importantly to me ...forgives an old mans stupid mistakes at speed...for guys like me they all work spectacular.....
Thinking bout trading in my very in nice shape 2008 crf450 but I think I'll keep her one more year!!! Or keep her forever!!
Congrats Suzuki! 3 for 4. I have a 2010 RM-Z and its an amazing machine. I remember when the 2013 RM-Zs were announced everyone said they were ugly and blah blah blah. Looks aren't everything people!
Dude I have a RMZ 450 and I spent most of the summer riding my CR250 2 smoke. They are just so much fun to ride plus i been revviog it Barcia style. Just add pre mix and Braap. I gotta work on the forks this winter tho. Change oil in them, get new tires chain and sprockets ready for 2013. I do hope to get the 350 KTM this chrismas tho. REDBULL should have their own race. It would be cool to have a race where riders have no limits and can run whatever they wanted. AF500 2 stroke
KTM !!! FTW! Nice review..sweet track but watch out for the dogs!
I am really surprised with the Honda, I thought this bike was going to be incredible ? What happened ?
Good news for Stewie. Def not the bike this year then!
Have to admit the surprise at Honda with all the hype around their new bike. Handling was supposed to be their forté...at least compared to the 2012 model. Im officially a 2 stroke boy as of 1 week. KTM 150 stealth 4-stroke killer :-)))))) BRRRAAAAAAAAAAP
omg what is it with the now 1min commercial c'mon people.....geeez
Wow Honda LAST!!! Funny he said there that Yam was not that bad but in the past (on the pulpmx show) said it is an odd bike and does weired things. Care to clear this up Png?
Honda Honda Honda my oh my Even the "death trap" YZ beat you? Geez...
Slam dunk for the RMZ's in both Classes.
Without Roger?
Impossible.
Who is their main test rider. Lets give him a pat on the back...and the factory for actually listening to them.
On PulpMX one night Matthes was talking about how MC would spend days testing rototypes and then the factory would tras his settings and roll out the production bikes with god knows what...maybe that happened again this year...because surely MC wouldn't sign off on a bike that all testers agreed was far from the best?
Wow what happend to Honda? The rule i always heard was never buy a first year bike, but i will say this buy whatever brand of bike you feel comfortable on and think you can win on.
interesting how honda claimed its new design would help with turning and balance, but i guess it was a flop. id go zuki

I have ridden Hondas my whole life except for one RM125. I bought a '12 RMZ450 last spring and I absolutely love it... AND it had the lowest price tag of any 450 by far. KTM's are figuring it out though- I would love a 250SX.
I spoke with Craig at Enzo, they just got done testing the 2013 Honda. I am happy to report that he said the bike is "good", and he said it is better than he expected. Apparently in stock form its NOT very good.. But with some tuning it's just as good as any. Craig feels the 08 Honda and 12 Kawi are the benchmark bikes.. He was a factory test rider at Kawi for years (doing James Stewart's and Jeff emigs testing) so I trust his input, not to mention he is ANAL about making stuff right and proper.
I am disappointed Honda still isn't on top, but it sounds like Enzo said its much better than the 2012 and much more stable. So, based on what I learned (I listen well and ask questions) the RMZ, and KX are the best bikes off the floor. Honda, Yamaha and KTM are next all being the same. They are all great bikes and you can't make a bad buy this year.
If you buy a 2013 Honda, I would definitely send it to Enzo as they have made HUGE headway with those airforks and spent a lot of time on them. Hope this helps so people aren't bummed out if they bought a Honda.. Send it to Enzo and it will be just as good as the RMZ.
@tonewall, I bought a 06 yz250 last year and absolutely enjoy riding it. Great advice.. I wished Honda would re-enter the two stroke market before motocross dies away from over priced, over complex, loud exhausted, short lived and heavy four strokes.
This just shows how little these guys know about setting up a bike. even with the basic adjusters they come with.
I never thought about that.. I read that James Stewart never even put gas in his own bike, or touched a screwdriver to a clicker. Maybe being a factory rider, you can ride like hell.. But somebody else has to make it right for you !! I love to screw around with adjustments, but its easy to become obsessed with looking for the perfecting setting that doesn't exist instead of riding. Like my pal Bruce Gates always said, put the settings in a good spot an just learn to ride the damn bike that way. There is truth in that to a point..
@tonewall
I agree a slightly used 250 two stroke of any make would be even better. I understand the cool factor of having the latest and greatest but most of the non pros I see riding 450s only use about 70% of the throttle. It's like buying a Ferrari and only driving 70.
I'm not happy with the changes Honda made...only because the 09-12 CRF450R was and is A great bike...For me...I say that because everyone seems to be putting there personal feeling about a bike ahead of the real question about what bike is right for YOU.I'm 5,10..178lbs...and I ride with alot of body english(just coming of 2strokes)And the CRF works super good for me...I feel right at home on it.I have and FMF exhaust on it,twin air filter and Race Tech springs...so the bike is changed to suite ME...and as for Two strokes being better then four strokes...I just switched this year..because I was starting to get lazy on the bike..it was causing me to make mistakes...so I switched to 4ts...it was the right move for me.but..I agree that there are ppl out there that should really be running 2t still...But at the same time I will say that the ability to only have to twist the gas as little or as much as you want makes the 4 stroke better for the average rider. And to the ppl that will say you can twist the gas on a two stroke as needed are full of tard.because if you dont use the clutch on near every part of the track...you are riding wrong...
