Hopefully bambam's little adventure getting stuck and then through the fans will light the spark he needs for tomorrow. He is clearly riding better now than at the beginning of the moto but him getting the holeshot, rundown, and passed has been the story all summer.

Herlings was pulling on Barcia when Barcia crashed, IT shouldn't count as outside assistance for barcia since nobody touched the bike or entered the track

Profile Picture

Herlings was definitely spanking Barcia when he went off but Dycker caught Herlings so you never know how it would have played out. But, in the end, it doesn't matter. Tomorrow is what matters and all the races should be good! Roczen looked incredible. I'm assuming the races will be longer tomorrow and the euros will get treated to watching Baggett drop the hammer in the second half.

Roger needs to get to Barcia and make sure he understands he isn't going to beat Herlings head to head and settle for just keeping him in sight. If he does that, he'll take a real good finish. He almost impaled himself trying to get back onto the track and that would have ended any chance the U.S. has. As it is one main competitor is supposed to be Schiffer and he still caught up and beat him after that disaster.

Herlings will take AT LEAST one moto with a decent start, so keeping him in sight is a good thing.

Hauling ass? Not really. Herlings was stone last out of turn one after making contact with another rider and nearly falling. End of lap one, 11th. (-12 seconds) End of lap 2, 4th. (-8 seconds) End of lap 3, 2nd (-4seconds) end of lap 4, 1st + 2, and then Barcia visits the fence. You call that hauling ass?
Not hard to see why Baggett won the 250 title this year. He´s a class act in sand. And that coming from euromike, is praise indeed.

Herlings might have won, but he doesn´t look comfortable on the 350, and would have been quicker on his 250 IMO.
I expect the yanks to up their game tomorrow, so they could get a podium with a bit of luck. Germany and Belgium are looking really good.

Do you really think Dungey was gonna push it when he doesnt have to? You are all forgetting he is SMART and thats why he is one of the best riders in the world. Lets see what happens when the motos are longer than a 20 min amateur moto and the Euros have to keep pace with the Americans for a full 35 minutes. I do think Cairolli is a bad ass who never runs his mouth, just lets his riding do the talking, kinda like Dungey. Roczen looked good but remember what happened all summer in the U.S. at the end of motos. And yes Herlings is obviously fast but anything can happen and both Herlings and Barcia can come back from a bad start or crash so I think MX3 is gonna be a wash and its gonna depend on how well Dungey and Baggett do. But I still hope Barcia cleans out Jeffrey "his arrogance makes we want to Hurl"ings. GO USA!!!!!

@jeramey the MX2 class has the least amount of Talent only the top 5 are any good(for a win), you have the GP MX2 to champ riding MX3. The MX1 and MX3 fields are deep through 7-8 place

@ronniebarnhardt

I don't think anyone is concerned with Dungey most know that he has 3 MXdN titles and understands what needs to be done to bring home the title, I think most are concerned with Barcia Crashing out. Will he mature enough in a day to realize that you need to finish a race to win the race?

Manes, I vividly recall you and a few others on here saying that if that Canadian Scottish fella won the 250 title last year without winning a race, his championship wouldn´t be worth squat. Luckily Deano did score a couple right there at the end of the season, so that shut all of you up.
Now, all of a sudden, it doesn´t matter if team USA don´t win a moto, as long as they take the overall. What´s the difference? Will you really feel the cup was won by the right continent just because you could field 3 riders who were more consistent than a fragmented opposition, after crowing long and loud how the USA had the meanest, badest, and fastest dirt bike riders in the world? Somehow, like me, I believe you will see that as a hollow victory.
We both know there is more on the line here than just a cup victory. You want the world to believe you guys are untouchable. Fair enough, but we also want to show you the Euro´s are your match individually, even if we feel the MXON format is a loaded dice in favour of the USA. But let´s not get into that.
What a pity there isn´t a single series for the title of WORLD champion, where AMA and GP riders do battle all over the world for the honour of being crowned, the very best in our great sport. Maybe someday it will happen.

Such nonsense from the euro crowd. Everyone over here knows how good Herlings is in the sand but what did KTM do, lose his settings that he uses normally? HA ha and HA on that one. He slowed down to allow someone to finish right on his behind for what purpose? I will repeat, Herlings should win at least one moto and maybe the overall but this is a team competition. Something that is always lost on the GP boys because there isn't a single country with a decent shot of winning as a team without a US disaster. Thus they shoot for individual accomplishments and hope the US has bad luck in more than one moto. I expected Herlings to win by A LOT more in a 20+2 race. That is why he was bummed out, but of course he will blame the settings.....where have we ALL heard that one before (countless times over)? A little cheese with your whine sir?

Profile Picture

@britisharmpump

Some of us americans are infatuated with GP racing, maybes its my euro roots IDK. But My predictions for MX1 have never changed tomorrow will be Cairoli, Dungey, MX2 (in class)Roczen, then Baggett 4, I originally thought Baggett would throw away a moto, but I think he rode smart and respects the soft stuff. MX3 Herlings, Barcia, I had Pourcel 2nd before he was replaced by Moog, I think Barcia is an unfortunate wild card and that he will probably score a solid 2nd in his first moto and then throw it away in the last moto trying to beat herlings, while depending on Dungey to come home in a solid finish to secure the Title

Profile Picture
ronniebarnhardt wrote: 1:12pm September 29, 2012

It doesnt matter who wins or loses, the losing side will have excuses and the winning side will be all smiles. Either way it should be an epic MXoN.
Just like Villapoto beating everyone at Budds Creek, Herlings SHOULD beat everyone here, but it sure would be fun to watch him get beat and stop all the "greatest sand rider ever" talk. Speaking of Villapoto, what do you think he would do to the rest of the field on this track? Would be a good race between him and European Sand Goat.

4 Euromike: that's the rule dude. Anyway Barcia is impressive, I am pretty sure that, with some practice, he will be almost as fast as Herlings, still Herlings is unbeatable, if he gets a good start he will check out tomorrow.
Being Italian I hope Cairoli will put his bad luck aside, but against with Herlings there is nothing he can. Guarneri will be good but Lupino is so slow.
Germany has a good shot, but Schiffer is the weak man. I think it will be among USA, Germany and Belgium, with Holland a possible threat.
The last moto will be the toughest race of the year for sure, the track will be at its very worse.

I just have this feeling that tomorrow we'll see Cairoli yard-sale off the start or Herlings break something on the bike...or both....and all we'll hear about is the what-if's and yeah-but's that come with such things. Much like Pourcel rode the wheels off his bike last year (literally) and DNF'd, it only creates the idea that your guy didn't really get "beat" in your minds. As if you keep that in mind when Dungey rides a whole moto with no goggles on in the sand and you crow about how he got his ass handed to him in QUALIFYING. I wonder what has a greater impact, wrong settings or no goggles? I love that wrong settings angle though.....always a huge impact on a sand track. Roger D must have hacked into the GP KTM 'puters and changed their data around to F with them. Too much. I do recall Euromike claiming Schiffer was rumoured to be 5 seconds a lap faster than Barcia though, which wouod explain why Barcia still caught him after his run-in with the fences. Guess that rumour has been put to bed.

BritAP: I never once said the US would win motos, as I recognize how good both Herlings and Cairoli are......in sand. But, I will not be shocked if Dungey wins a moto, or Barcia.....or even Baggett. 20+2 is not the same as the full racing tomorrow and once again....this is QUALIFYING. It cannot be won today....but it could be lost today. A US injury today would have ended it. So I would expect that none of the US guys were going ballzout....and I would not expect any of them to go ballzout tomorrow unless behind early and needing a miracle ride. They are the only team that has to think from a cautious standpoint to avoid losing, while other teams must go all out hoping to win. Anyone saying the US riders would smoke them all every moto have no idea what it what and do not deserve a response. So please do not lump me in with that. In fact, I don't recall seeing your name here before, so who were you posting as previously?

If Barcia got 2nd, they would have dropped Dungey's 6th and I guess had a better gate pick with the better finish. Since they both got 6th anyway, it changes nothing either way.

Barcias DQ does not mean anything as it was a throw away ride and the USA will have 6th gate pick tomorrow. Only the best 2 rides counted today just like only 5 of the best rides count tomorrow.

A lot of what is happening here reminds me of JS7 fans during the time between qualifying (after he "wins" practice) and the time the main event ends. Someone check out how many times RV was top qualifier compared to how many times he won the main a few hours later. He learned a little lesson from that time he failed to qualify realizing the idea is to qualify, not win before the race starts.

I just read some of Herlings twitter posts and damn, how can you not like that kid. Tells it like it is and doesnt care what people think. I wish we had some American riders that would not put on an act every time they get in front of a camera.

I still think the USA will win tomrrow but I hope one of the riders can at least get one 2nd in a moto. Who wants to win getting 3rds or by someone having bad luck. This is team USA and if we do in fact have the best riders in the world one should be able to accomplish this on any surface. The fact is the track is long sweeping turns with kids table top jumps but it does get rough. I think our boys will step up tomorrow and if not leave them in Belgium for a couple months to practice. I will have to admit that Herlings is a comet in the sand no doubt about it.

B-KR has got it right. I hope the racing is good tomorrow and would like for USA to bring home the gold yet again but it doesn't really matter. American Motocross is the premiere level of the sport for the world and that clearly bothers some Europeans so much that they look for any and every excuse to come on to an American site and talk the way they do.

Let me get this straight: Barcia holeshot while Herlings got caught in the gate, starting last. In 4-5 laps he half-tracks Barcia for the lead, dodges Bam-Bam's attempted Bamming, then rides away (being careful to make suspension notes to cure his unhappy fork settings) while Barcia hyperventilates himself through a sign like a scene from Smokey & The Bandit.

BUT, at the end, with Herlings sleepwalking the last lap, Barcia makes up 2 seconds, SO EVERYTHING IS FINE re Barcia vs Herlings??

Even better is the fact that afterwards Herlings looked barely winded, do I have it right?

Hey; I am USA all the way but let's remain sober: forget Herlings. Anything can happen in a race, as we all know, but straight-up nobody is going to run with Herlings. Just how it is.

And therein lies the problem. Barcia isn´t convinced. Tomorrow he´s gonna try and beat the sand master and it´s going to go all tits up. He´s going to crash out what few brains he has. I always said Tomac would be a better choice.

Actually, no, Elsinore. Herlings is saying he got arm pump which if the racing had been 35 minutes long would not have been good at all. Barcia needs to get 2nd to Herlings, that is his job......finish as high up as possible if Herlings is out front. If he pumps up at 22 minutes tomorrow, he won't get top 5, so..... I don't count on that but it has got to be in his head now.....as he counts down to 19.....20.....21.....wondering if it is coming. But I'm not sure who anywhere said Barcia was beating Herlings based on gaining 2 seconds on the last lap. One thing is pretty amazing though, and that is that after all that time lost, Barcia still finished 6th.....passing Schiffer in the process......in a short race! Schiffer is the weak link in Team Germany who is one of the only teams with any chance against the U.S. Many GP fan-guys were counting on him to handle Barcia.

When Euromike posts, I for some reason envision Dorothy clicking her red shoes together and repeating "There's no place like home". At some point he has convinced himself that the U.S. has no shot of winning the crown. Not a questionable shot, not a long shot.....no shot at all! It does make for an entertaining read.

Connection between Herling's arm-pump and apparently way-off front suspension settings?

You wouldn't think the settings between the 250 & 350 would be that different, but I guess at that level.

On that note.... 350's won 2 of the 3 heats today. And 2011/12 World Champs won all 3 motos.

We will likely win this thing, but here is hoping that my USA brethren will see that there are good guys all over, and that we will always be in a position to learn a thing or two. Tip of the hat to our worthy Euro friends and lets race clean tomorrow.

It's going to be fun, which is the point, yes? Not like we are curing cancer here.

I think we (euros) make these comments because americans ALLWAYS think they are the best in every race all the time. I think GP riders and AMA riders are about the same speed. The difference are the tracks and type off racing. I lived in the US and loved it, but I don't like the thinking "nothing but the US".

im hoping the raceing is clean...i hope the top guys all start well and we get to see some top racing....

JB needs to just understand that beating herlins means riding the track way different....or crash as he found out...better to let him go!!

i think the guy that will put the biggest fight to him that wont let him go is TC222 twp fast sand riders that dont rereally have a team but will want to prove something to eachother...

Jesus F-ing crist, It's Ken de Dyker....would you guys get it right. I lived in Europe for over 5 years. It's no wonder they call us "stupid americans". It's de Dyker. Now if a Euro mis-spelled an Americans name you guys would be all over it, criticizing him, but you think nothing of calling Ken de Dyker,
"dyker". Come on USA. Maybe you guys are all white trash, hillbilly's but don't show it here OK? For crying out loud.....

Well racin' is racin' and anything can and will happen. The comments on this thread are some good ones. Mostly civil even. I think that Motocross, to the public in general, over in Europe, is a bigger sport than here in the U S. We have too many one ball sport fans here. Therefore, with that in mind, I understand how they may get some of the impressions of us they do. I like to like people of all kinds, and think we should just be one group of people that like Moto and it shouldn't matter where we are from. We all share the same interest in watching dirt bikes being pushed to and beyond thier capabilities. And we all like to watch close, clean, racin'. Without injuries. Enuf of that. I haven't noticed anyone here saying what seems like the inevitable. The track is gonna change. Gonna get rough. Gonna be a different track altogether as the day goes by. Will make the riders work harder and therefore the strong will benefit. May change who is who. (without picking anyone rider) And the one thing that is certain-Nobody ever won the race with the fastest qualifying time. And there is always "The luck of the draw". But still being from the U S, I must say Go Team USA! Make us proud! Just a few comments from an American citizen whose ancestors came here from Europe. Like most of us! LOL
