So what was that about Dungey wiping the track with the euros?

Profile Picture
buckeyeracer104 wrote: 9:27am September 29, 2012

Calm down there fella. Anyone who said that and believed it didn't have much knowledge of the sport. Lommel something neither 3 Americans have ever rode before and will probably struggle with. On top of that it is only qualifying if you didn't notice. Plus Dungey lost his goggles mid way through the race. No excuses the Euros will be good on the track just pointing some things out for ya.

Dungey didnt even have the fastest qualifying times here in the U.S., then went on to destroy the field week in and week out. Dont worry, he'll wick it up a notch in the actual race.

Not hard to think this would be the moronic comments. As has played out in SX and MX time and again.......winning practice and qualifying is where it's at, right?

No doubt Team USA wants to show their hands as well as risk injury when the idea is to QUALIFY for the necessary races tomorrow. I recall Dungey being 5th fastest in qualifying at Nationals this year. I also recall Baggett kicking serious ass in his qualifiers at the MXoN last year and then pulling 17-17 scores. Never pay attention to anything but the actual races.

@Klepto: 2 things...
1)who said Dunge would "wipe the field"? he's too classy to say that. he'll just do it on race day.
2)quit stealing stuff!

ps- whenever i think about dunge career i think about that go nowhere JLaw. remember him? i think i saw him begging for change at an exit ramp. lol

MX1 is the 450s. I think MX3 is open. So run what ya brung I believe. But you will probably see mostly 450s I am guessing. Although I think Herlings runs the 350? Anyone else correct me if I am wrong

Guys, I'm USA but I am not buying that are guys were laying-up (not showing their hand) and saving it for tomorrow. Think about how many qualification races our boys won in MXoN races past???

The track is a great equalizer this year and our guys will need excellent starts and the best of luck to pull a moto win against the locals!

Profile Picture
meankx wrote: 10:17am September 29, 2012

Mx3 is open class...450, 350 or 250. Most countries would run 450. Some will do 250 or 350

Profile Picture
yellowrider207 wrote: 10:18am September 29, 2012

yes, MX3 is the old 500 class, now called open and they almost always run a 450.

Profile Picture
manes wrote: 10:21am September 29, 2012

It's not really MX3, it's an open class, that means 250cc 4 strokes +
I am pretty sure that the MX3 class doesn't allow the Ktm 350.
If you check the standings there is an open class, not an mx3 class.

Profile Picture
buckeyeracer104 wrote: 10:25am September 29, 2012

@ OldGrey I hope you are wrong but I agree with you. This track is just something they haven't seen before. Look no further than Ken Roczen going 3 secs a lap faster than Bagget. Again it is qualifying and winning the practice race doesn't always translate into a win in the race but we will see tomorrow. That is a lot of time to make up.

Roczen was 3 seconds faster on an early lap, pay attention to the later laps and when Baggett's fast lap was......it was several seconds faster than the guys ahead of him......including Roczen.....add another 10 minutes and...... Remember how many times Roczen lead AMA races this year before falling back at the end? Remember what Baggett does in the last 15 minutes.

Please people! Like BillC said, our guys are still warming up. If you don't think the Dunge will be 3 seconds a lap faster tomorrow then you are a novice. And he'll have tear offs also. And as others have already mentioned, wait until about 20 minutes in to the main and see what Baggett starts doing tomorrow. He has a valuable year of experience behind him now too. I will admit that Barcia is like flipping a coin though...

B-KR wrote: Never pay attention to anything but the actual races.

Wow, you yanks certainly change your tune, don´t you? I distinctly recall last year when your guys won the quali races you were crowing like good old barn yard roosters on Saturday evening.
Anyway, your guys did about how I expected. Dungey rode really well and was only about a minute behind the Champ. Trust me, for his first time at Lommel, that is more than respectable.
Blake was what I expected as well. He´s the best sand rider on the team and is a joy to watch, smooth and in control. I expect him to be team USA´s best tomorrow.
Barcia is a clown.A fast clown, but a clown nevertheless. A second place behind JH would have put the US right up there, but he battles him instead, even when the guy was pulling away, and sticks it into the boardings. Technically, he should be disqualified for breaking two rules, receiving outside assistence (from a member of team USA as it happens) and also for not rejoining the track where he left it. Nothing will be done though as this is team USA after all. You know, we are all equal, only, some are more equal than others. LOL.

Anyway yanks team Germany were the business today, so I will sleep well, confident in our ability to get the job done tomorrow if all goes well. And my team Europe was, well, I won´t rub it in. Good nite. See you in the morning.

My opinion is Baggett and Barcia looked great and fast enough to get 2nds in their class but I am more then concerned about Dungey, he got waxed even before his goggles came off. Sure he was in 4th but 35 seconds off the pace. I don't care what the surface is no way should a USA rider be getting scarfed on like that, you know RV would not. Dunge was in second but let others go right on by him off the start whereas Barcia and Baggett kept the hammers down. I hope I am wrong on this but Dungey just might be our downfall this year. All we need to win is 2nds and 3rds nothing else. So kudos to Bam and BB and get well soon to RD.

Profile Picture
jeramey wrote: 11:40am September 29, 2012

they only keep the two best scores anyways so it didnt matter anyways because dungey got 6th as well

Profile Picture
buckeyeracer104 wrote: 11:42am September 29, 2012

So basically what Euromike was saying is that they have to race every race at a track Lommel so the Euros have a shot at beating USA? Did I get that right? And that he doesn't care who wins as long as it's not team USA LOL just talking some smack.

Seriously though the track is going to be tough for us. They don't ride on that kind of terrain here. At least not on any national tracks so it will be tough for them. Hopefully they can improve between now and tomorrow. Barcia needs to keep the rubber side down and not ride over his head. Dungey lost his goggles, it's a lot to ask of anyone on a sandy track. Even with them I don't know if he catches AC or nagi. Well it's still fun to watch them ride on a a different type of track with some of the best riders in the world.

Profile Picture
jeramey wrote: 11:42am September 29, 2012

i agree claxton but if dungey is our weak link that can be a good thing if barcia and baggett dont have any meltdowns tomorrow besides the crash barcia looked solid

Profile Picture
OldGreyMXer wrote: 11:47am September 29, 2012

If anyone here didn't get to watch these races, they have some footage posted over at VURBMOTO.

Claxton, I have confidence in Dungey, I feel strongly he will hold up his end of the deal tomorrow. That last 10-mins. Dunge will get-r-done for a good scoring finish (I didn't say a win)! Like I mentioned yesterday, Barcia has me worried. I sure hope the team can keep him thinking..., "TEAM"???

We shall all see soon enough!

Time for some sleep now. :-)

Profile Picture
buckeyeracer104 wrote: 11:48am September 29, 2012

@Claxton You may be right but his lap times were increasing up until his goggle came off. You look at it and it's not really suprising he always takes a little while for him to get going but he usually improves as the race goes on.

Dungey had a poor start, and had moved up to fourth and was right on top of 3rd when he finally ditched his goggles,

All dungey needs is a better start. Which for the races that count tomorrow he will do. Still 2nd to Cairoli, but will be good for the title.

Baggett had nothing for Roczen, but he will come home a solid 3rd-4th which will be good for the title. I think he learned from last year, and Rozen beat him straight last year in france also.

Barcia is still my concern, I don't think he knows what it means to be a TEAM player, and to take 2nd to herlings and bring home the title

Lommel is a track unlike these guys have never seen before. European old style deep pure sand track. There is no track stateside to compare it to. 18 year old Jeff Herlings will be the fastest rider on the track. He will win going away. Cairoli and Roczen will also be very fast. Dungey will be top 5.

Wrong. If he had settled for 2nd, team USA would have dropped Dungey´s 6th and would have qualified 2nd. Barcia is just stupid.

I really think Baggett will beat Roczen tomorrow and I also think both of them will be well into the top 10 overall in their motos.

All the talk is just that, talk.....and talk is cheap. We heard all the same talk on Saturday last year after qualifying and none of it resembled what happened in the races very much at all. Baggett looked unstoppable in qualifying then laid an egg in the races. We all watched Baggett whip Roczen's hiney countless times over this summer and now Roczen will do the whipping? Roczen surely should have gine 1-1 at Southwick if the issue is sand.....even though Southwick is SOOOOO much different than the track here. Yet, Roczen didn't even win a moto at the Wick. Will be good racing tomorrow and I wouldn't count on anything other than Cairoli and Herlings will be fast and all 3 US riders will be in the thick of it.

@Euromike

You know this is only qualifing right? We are used to seeing Dungey tip-toe around during qualifying only to come out during the race and run laptimes that no Euro rider would ever come close to. Ever hear of Ryan Vilipoto? How about James Stewart? Chad Reed? Yea... those guys..... have all been beaten by Dungey..... and they could and would crush anyone on the other side of the pond.

(I put Reed in there because he is basicly an american rider now, he has been here for 10 years.. i think he has earned his place.)

I've been to (3) MXdN's (US x2 / England x1) and all were the most spectacular, most amazing racing experiences I have ever been at! I've seen so many great races and riders-- Caroli, DeSalle, Stewart, Everts, Villopoto, etc. And i've appreciated everyone of those races as well and RESPECTED everyone and gave props where props were due. Period. This is the most amazing and biggest event of OUR Sport-- let's not ruin with lude, crude and disrespectful comments-- it's BS to do so. Long Live MXdN! And cant wait until 2015!

always the same trash talk. I think Villopoto said before a sand GP this year when he got the question if Team USA would be ready for this gnarly sand track. Answer: The riders that will be picked are pros and will be ready for the task. Home track advantage? Well, the US have 3 factory riggs with them. trained on sandtracks for quite some time. No excuses, they must win. It`s like saying that Musquin and Roczen are going to win in next year, because they have never ridden the tracks. It`s there job to race, no matter what the surface.
