With the announcement of the 2012 MXoN team (Dungey, Barcia, Baggett) we decided to dig into the Racer X Archives and pull out a classic Eric Johnson feature titled When We Were Kings which featured the 1981 MXoN team, and USA's first win at the Motocross of Nations. That is quite possibly the best written article I have ever read.

I also remember wanting to contribute to the grass roots effort to send a team over there. At that time I didn't have 2 nickles to rub together. I barely had enough coin to make it to the line every weekend. Those were the days...

I hope Baggett, Barcia & Dungey read this article sometime before they go over.

Like David Bailey says in the Lucas oil commercial "I am glad Lucas Oil sees how important motocross is. It has always been important to me"

That was worth every minute it took to read it. I was about 13 years old back then and I remember it like it was yesterday. I strongly feel that that article would make an amazing movie today. I think it would even appeal to non-moto people as well. Great read!
