I believe RC4 could podium at the next National, and even win if RD5 has an issue.
Nice video, RacerX. Always great to see RC4 ride!
I agree with pizzacorner on this one...RC still has it! I miss watching him race.
Starts how it ended..
Yeah RC may have added a few inches to waste, but there's no doubt in my mind this guy couldn't back to a National and dominate. Especially when you take into account, that the so called 'fastest man on the planet' who proved incapable of beating the GOAT, did just that before doing the usual. (crashing)
Anyone know what the deal with Suzuki is? "it was looking like I was gonna be running a stocker" Surely the greatest of all time, deserves a full factory bike? Especially as the current race bikes are nothing but dust collectors at the moment. No?
I really hope he follows the whole, 'going back to my roots, with Mitch' thing serious. Then, he can get back on Kawi's and hook us up with a sick video of him on the sickest bike ever: '99 Splitfire/ PC kx 125! Braaaaaap!!
I have to agree. The old GOAT doesn't look too BA-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-AD!
Here's the big question are these races just tuneup's for races to come.
Like i don't know Vegas in the fall for a 1,000,000 bucks!
Good to see him riding again.
Soooooo, based on this video you guys think RC could come back and finish on the podium at a national????
The GOAT "was" the best racer ever, BUT, he is now a very fast weekend racer.
RIGHT NOW, he could not do a 30+2 X 2 to save his life, let alone finish on the podium. (maybe? top 12)
I love the GOAT too, but come on guys, a podium, really???!!!!!!
I don't think these are tune-ups. He could do that anywhere. I also don't think it's so great that he shows up and wins at L.L.. He has prooven himself at every level of the sport, and just took a metal from someone else that worked hard to even get there. Don't get me wrong, I think he is the GOAT, but these other guys need the recognition more than he does. It was said in one of the other threads, there should be a class for retired pro riders so they don't take anything away from a true amateur.
How about the poor SOB who got 2nd!! Just not a big fan of RC doing this.
SeventiesRacer if John Dowd can get a 12th at 47 pretty sure RC could do better than top 12.
i know this may ruffle some feathers, and the goat is the goat, seen him in his prime many times, but when he was pro he was pretty darn lean&mean;. diet&training; alone? maybee a little winstroll,gh,some dieretics? a little dip in lance armstrongs medicine chest? just sayen he has packed on quit a few lbs.
I was just getting you guys going it's been boring lately. But another thought I have is the man can't sit still, he lost his Nascar deal maybe he getting back into
motox because needs something to do.
What happen with his nascar deal?
Is everyone going rag on RC for putting down everyone who is there trying to do good by saying " is this going to change my life...NO " Then go home and let the people who CARE about this win. The more I see about him there the more I don't like it.
BillC the short story is the team he was on went too 2 drivers.
@SeventiesRacer
Soooooo, based on this video you think RC could not do a 30+2 X 2 to save his life?
See how dumb you sound, when you think you know what you are talking about?
I hope liek hell he comes back. give him 6months soloed riding at home...various tracks.....sit at the weight set and do some cardio.....he'd be back up in top 4 no prob
6 months solid*
I can't believe the way some of you are putting Ricky down. He has every right to be there racing, and the other guys in the class should be absolutely ecstatic to have the opportunity to be on the track with such a legend. He was always one of the most humble and deserving athletes our sport has ever seen. BillC, you took that quote way out of context and had no clue what he was really saying. He was saying he didn't have the pressure on him to win like when he was young, his results wouldn't change the course of his life like before his pro career. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
There is an Ex-Pro class at Loretta's...it's called the 25+, 35+ etc etc. There's always been ex pro's in these classes because the guys want to come back to loretta's and experience the race in a more relaxed environment than they had when they were kids, where a good week COULD change their life. RC "took a step back" for 4 or 5 years and wants to come back to one of the most fun MX events there is with his family...he could have raced 2 classes but he chose just one and I don't see that as hogging the lime lite. The first year I went to loretta's RC was riding 65's and it would have been cool to be there this year to see him come back to the ranch. I won't be surprised if this is the one and only return he makes considering all the time and effort that goes into getting there.
no factory bike since the class is subject to claim rules I think
MrBones22 got it right. He's racing in the right class, 25+. He's not taking SH!T away from anyone racing in that class. It's not like there's guys in the 25+ class looking for factory rides. The're all out there doing the same thing Ricky is doing...racing for fun in the 25+ class and to relieve the glory without all the pressure. It's not like he's in schoolboy taking sponsorships or signing deals away. Get your panties undwaded. If you think him being at LL's was anything but great for the sport, you're retarded. With the economy in the dumps and AM events losing particpants race by race, exposure like this only does good to keep things rolling for up and coming racers.
Look at the big picture, not the booger at the tip of your nose.
Pitbull, without your advice on humility I'm not sure what RC would do.
You think RC's an egotist because he's racing at LLs in the +25 class with his family and making himself accessable and approachable to all the ams at the event?! WTF.....if you've ever had the pleasure of seeing him at one of these events and how he gives the time of day and interacts with anyone wanting to talk with him you'd keep your lame ass opinions to yourself....It surprises me how many dumb folks like yourself are still roaming the earth.
BillC, you think the "poor guy" in 2nd was sobbing because he lost to RC and didn't get the first place medal? LMAO..not only do you fail at reading comprehension, but appearantly at video comprehension as well.
He could care less about getting 2nd to RC, he was just happy to podium and back doing the sport he loves since he was told he'd never ride again.
Damn, you love to fill these threads with MX "propaganda" that is completely meaningless and unfounded to anyone but yourself.
monster pulled the rug out from under im and went with kyle bush from what i read
@pizzacorner......the stupidity is all yours if you think he can, right now as you say, contend at a national or win if the Dungenator has an isuue.
Dude....put down the crack pipe and back away from it slowly.
If he were to train for it, he may get back into national caliber shape in a month or two, but right now, no way! He's racing LL's, not Southwick, Washougal, High Point, etc...WakeTFU
@BillC.....ya, Dowdy did get a 13th, and Brownie a 12th in one moto. These guys are in better "racing" shape that the GOAT is right now, and they have trained to do these races to keep their numbers. All I said was that @pizzaface said he (RC) could contend now for a win right now and I called him on his idiotic statement.
@HandlebarDragger:
So let me get this straight...you're accusing RC of cherry picking when you have no clue what "junior" means in the +25 junior class?
If you're not "up" on Loretta's and what all the classes mean please leave the dipsh!t cherry picking accusations to yourself.
Last time I checked the 25+ junior class hasn't led one racer EVER to stardom and signing major contracts. I'm sure they'll all be fine with RC racing in "their" class whoever they may be. Yes, I've been on a rant, but the igorance on this topic is mind-boggling when folks don't have a clue what their talking about.
BTW:
Under 25 is College
25+ are Juniors
30+ are Vets
40+ are Seniors
50+ are Masters
There's a Open Pro Sport class...he went for it in the regionals and didn't qualify. So yes he's racing the one class he can without affecting any up and comers.

and if they need more sand for the track RC has a whole bag!
good to see him racing again, but that second place kid should be crying on the podium after WINNING that moto.
I'm gonna agree with BillC and another on here, not sure about RC doing this either!! Ya, he's the GOAT, ya, he can do whatever he wants that is true, but he has been at the top of the sport and won everything there is to win, some of the guys he is racing against won't get to that level so this is there chance to shoot for the top in something. I don't think that finishing second to RC somehow makes it ok in their minds!! If he wants to race again, that is awesome for sure, but go do a National or something RC and leave these races for the guys who have to be there!! Just my opinion, bash away fellas!!
RC there is like Frank Sinatra or Miriah Carey going on American idol because he/she has not put out an album in a couple of years.
There is no fun racing a National as a retired pro, espeically being RC would have to live up to "your" expectaions and would get blasted on if he didn't top 3 right out of the gate.
However there is fun in racing LL's and getting back to the roots of what brought you through the ranks. So I guess RC isn't allowed to have fun and should sit around his house with his finger up his @ss otherwise he's getting accused of cherry picking.
BillC, your analogy is just plain dumb. Those on American Idol are looking to breakthrough and have a chance at a contract as an up and coming singer. The dudes in the 25+ Junior class in LL could give a rats ass about getting a pro contract and know that dream is already washed away being they are too old for anyone to seriously consider them. Most of those guys already had their hayday in the pro ranks. Like I said Bill, you just bring meaningless propaganda to the table...
@Whatever - The 25+ guys don't have to be there as you insinuated. There's only 2 things you have to do in life...Sh!t and die. Racing the 25+ class isn't and never will pay the bills buddy.
HandleBarDragger, if you have an issue with why they refer to the 25-29 year old call as the Junior take it up with MX Sports. Yes, we all know when you think of the word Junior, you have visions of 10 year old boys in your mind....sicko. LOL
did anybody listen to the kid who was crying on the podium?
doctors told him he'd never race again.
He came back and WON his class at Loretta Lynn's!!
oh wait ..no he didn't .. because the greatest pro motocross racer of all time wanted to have a little fun
sucks for him
C'mon guys lighten up......if the GOAT wants to re-live his childhood that he never got, then allow him. He has earned it.
By racing the class that he is, he isn't taking away anything from anybody. He is another racer (real good, and fast too) that any other racer must contend with, plain and simple.
Don't bag on RC because he wants to show his kids (who weren't born when he was dominate) what their father did for the living that has both of them (kids) set for life and living in a large house with lots-o-toys. RC is having fun in his life now, with zero pressures. (that his entire childhood produced)
Allow him his LIFE, LIBERTY, AND HIS PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS as guaranteed thru our Bill of Rights
You go Ricky!!!!!!!!!!!
right on SpottedMarley!!
.Tigole.... what ever!!
Hmmm... I read all the love and hate posts, then watched the vid. I must say he remembered how to ride, especially on a fun kids track! But poor RC looked like a chubbed-out grandfather next to the other podium kings. Training, weight watchers, a facelift, would never help him best any of the top 5 pros. RC should go back to the booth, he would be guaranteed a top 3 finish with the other talking heads. It is better not to hate... He is a good Dad.
what a bunch of whining ass babies, those are the rules in place, he can run that class, get over it. Just like all the other ex-pro's that run the +classes, us true amateurs have to suck it up and race knowing we will get our asses kicked once we get to LL, so what, not the end of the world.
I'd rather see RC show up at a National out of shape and finish top 10 than listen to someone elses BS every time he doesn't win...
RC training for six months, you guys really think he couldnt podium at a national? Pass me whatever your smoking. Wasnt all that many years ago the FMOTP was looking at nothing but a rear fender on a quickly disappearing suzuki
I'd much rather stand on the podium in 2nd next to Ricky than win over,,,,,well,,,,,whoever. As a matter of fact I would be honored to be beat by Ricky. Nobody in 25+ class is losing any "sponsor" opportunities or their time in the "limelight". Of course I'm a racer and many of you posters just have your Monster and Fox decals displayed in your back windows as your MX credentials so you may not understand where I'm coming from.
@JDubya I agree. Someone called the 2nd place guy a "poor SOB". That poor SOB just lost to the GOAT! As an amateur I'd be excited to line up next to RC. As you said he's not taking any money out of their pocket.
@Preston To use the "older I get, faster I was" phrase to describe RC is the most idiotic statement I've ever heard. He is the GOAT. He was the fastest guy on the track more often than anyone else in history.
@BillC- You're an idiot.
I love RC just as much, or more, than the next guy
but he's never going to win a National again
the level in all classes has been raised since he retired, even the GOAT at the peak of his career, if pitted against the current 450 class (if all riders were healthy) would only be trading wins right now, not dominating like he once did
it's just a simple fact of the progression of our sport, the level of competition goes up. it never goes down or flattens out.
RC wouldn't dominate for the same reasons MC wouldn't dominate. that was then, this is now
He sucks a driving cars. He should take a few pounds off and do the nationals next year. He would still beat JS7!
@HandlebarDragger
Go jump on your Bultaco and ride it off a cliff...
