are those fuel injected?
Wow, I just love these old YZs !
@SpottedMarley, yes they are. And they are all fourstokes too. LOL
Remember late 60's, early 70's going to the rural MX races around here was wild. In the mini class you would see Mini-Enduro's battling SL-70's, later 73 KO's, Those 2 stroke Kawasaki 90's lol, hard to tell what you would see running, but I loved the 100 class, it was neat, could see a 45 y/o man racing his own son.
that yz80 is a 77 not 76 .
Had both a 76 and 80 125 fun light bikes, the 80 was a screemer, they had to have the float bowl filed down to keep from rubbing on the bottom end(caused fuel to foam in bowl=blown motor)the 76 had these huge gold caps on top of the front forks and the fender extenders, never really new if they were stock or not?
I love those yellow and black Yammies. Believe it or not, I had 2 Yamaha MXers even before that (a '72 125 (orange tank) and a '75 400 (white with a yellow/black decal only covering part of the sides of the tank).
krout its a 76 that was the tank on it when i got it im going to redo one day
I owned and raced the 250H. First year for the 43mm forks. Suffered badly from headshake with the steeper head angle! Got a G model frame and swapped everything over and found that to be a much better handling bike! My all time favorite bike was the 83 K model. Great bikes from back in the day!
Hey krout is that You! We will have to some pics of our 74 to 77 YZ80's when they are done!! Nice collection Aaron.
Great collection Aaron. Yamaha should go back to yellow. Always loved that color on those bikes.
Nice Collection!
Man, that "special edition" 1976 YZ125X was big news back then, not sure tho how much better it worked with those big reserviors on top of the fork tubes-over the standard YZ125C.
FYI, Yamaha did not make a 60cc mini-bike in 1973. If the color of your bike is correct that is a 1972 "JT2" I had one. Twice! ...and the 1974 YZ80A (Silver), 1976 YZ 80C, 1978 YZ80E, 1979 YZ80F
I don't remember any difference in the '76-'77 Yz80's besides the tank graphic/paint
Here is a pic of my 1975 YZ 125 first bike age 11 in 1975..........Oil injected till taken off.The tank was white-black-red...........Yellow was start 1976....... As a first bike you dont have anthing to compair to............Half way thru the year I got an RM 125 1976....................Miles ahead of the 1975 yz back in the day...Rm was a wicked rocketship............out of controll !

The plural of YZ is YZs....not YZ's.
mr mx???
if that is a picture of your bike, you did NOT have a YZ
bike in pic is a MX 125, different model than YZ 125
We still tease our buddy Rick for trying to suck out grape juice from the top of a 1976 YZ125 fork tube. "No, that's not oil in there, it's delicious and refreshing." I think Rick ate paint chips, too.
Sorry I had mx white black red
Photo was not mine! I do have one that would have to be scanned and submitted this photo was for demonstration of what the mx looked like that year..
Sorry for the BIG TAAAAAA DO OOOOOOOOOOO
Rustymxer, what do you know,do you have a vintage collection ...lol
better question how are ya ?
Carl & Bob
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! My first bike was a 75' YZ 80b. Also owned the 80' YZ125g.
Anyone have a 'sano' 100 out there?
MXA's site has a clean one on there, brings back memories of my 79.
@trucker I grew up in a Yamaha dealership. Not much escaped my notice on Yamaha from 1972-1980
The rear shocks were all black on the 77. I believe this is a 76 with a 77 tank decal.
