Congrats to all who threw a leg over this past weekend. Espeacially Mike Brown & John Dowd......... BD25: post over on spring creek race report. Thanks
I know spelling its early give it a break now!!!!!!
Baggett is SICK!!! to bad he fell in moto 2!!! either way the others are beat in there head.
Dowd looked good in moto 2, He will still need two very good moto's at the Wick to keep the #16. Going to be real close. if he gets good starts he can do it for sure. I hope he can pull it off.
OK, this has been bugging me for a while. Why do you post the overall for the US mx classes and show the moto scores, i.e. Dungey 1st place (1-1) and then below show the moto finishes again, but for the GP's only show the overall so we don't know how they finished in each moto? I would like to see the moto finishes as well as the overall. And before I get hammered on here, I am from the US, but enjoy all forms of MX.
KX408 I agree 100% with you. makes no sence!! Same info twice for the USA and half info on the GP's!! Come on RacerX!!
@ BillC
Have to give credit to YOU for the big assist on that one. If you werent twisting my good arm, I would of never capitulated !!!!
My SECOND EFFORT picks for Dowd and Brown wasnt to far off the mark.

@ BillC
@kx408 - Not only that, but they put SOME of the moto scores for the Canadian riders, but not for the rest! Somebody was asleep at the wheel.
I posted this thought under the Race Report, hoping to get some discussion, but to no avail ... so I'll try again. For time’s sake, I’ll copy and paste.
Props to all successful riders yesterday, but BIG props to Dowdy and Brown!!! Now … does anyone else feels like it’s BS that someone like John Dowd, who competes in Nationals every year, should have to pin his hopes on scraping together 25 points in order to wear HIS number next year? Imagine JD lining up at Southwick in 2013 with some other number, while somebody else wears #16. Blasphemy! Are these numbers so important to the AMA that they must “take them back” from those who don’t “honor” the number with 25 points? Who has honored his number more than John Dowd? (And Brownie’s done his justice as well.) Just wait ‘til they friggin’ retire.
LOL 9lives-Mr-Mx ... Always here to help!! Hey I WISH your first pick was right but I was just looking at it for what it was as much as my heart wanted to say YES 10th!! He rode GREAT in moto 2 so now he only needs 15 points!!
I think Bown for sure is going to be at Washougal!!!!!!!
AMA Pro numbers should be earned. If the GOAT came back to race pro, would he maintain the #4?
If the answer is yes, then it should be the same for all, unless, it is a retired number.
Out of respect for the GOAT, I think, but am not sure, that the #4 is passed over by the current pro racers.
Very good question tho........
last year was the first year someone could pick the #4 maybe this year someone will.
I acn see this both ways, if your a young guy you really want a low # so you get mad at the "old" dude who races once or twice a year and keeps his, I also know if I could keep mine I would want to.
I liked it better the old way, you earn your # every year.
I think that if you are top 5 in overall career pro wins, your number should be continued. All else should have to get 25 points per year to maintain their respective number.
This is a choice that former (old) racers can make. I agree with BillC tho, I would want to keep mine as well, but, that is my selfishness and vanity talking. (hehehe)
@ BillC
I loved the old way . It was based on performance year prior.....Was always a great way to go...... your whole goal was to be as low as you could get. Mine was # 33 in my best...... It was a big woody if you could get #99 or under you had bragging rights.
These guys now that miss a whole year would all be 3 digits, LOL Its just the way it goes. Bring back the old way everything, 125, 250, 2 STROKE & 500 fourstroke only class this would be the support class the way it ought to be......
PEACE TO ALL THE OLD DOGS STILL LEFT IN THE WORLD............Like me and you!!!
Some of the fastest jokers I ever rode against were 3 digit guys,
Even the old Hurricane was# 100 in the bad ass days. Im getting a framed jersey of his in 2 weeks time should be priceless!!!!!!!!!!
With the old way, it took several races for a lot of fans to get used to/figure out the new numbers. The casual fan might never get it. I’m TOTALLY in favor of permanent numbers for the top guys. In what other sport do athletes change numbers every year? Did Willie Mays give up #24 because he didn’t hit enough homers anymore???
Referring to RC, he last raced in 2007 … totally not the same as what Dowd and Brown are doing. Like I said, for Dowd to line up next year and someone else to be wearing #16 is bogus. If a 46-year-old going out and scoring top 20s doesn’t earn him the right to keep his number, then I don’t know what else to say….
Thats the problem Sef154, the sport has goten bigger whitch brings in the "casual" fan and changes the sport. also your analogyis poor, MX is not a Team sport your only as good as you are. so Willie Mays can keep his # let the MX'ers earn theres.
@sef154....your putting personal feelings into something that is a business / professional process. I understand, but everyone has a personal opinion and these all cannot be used. It is a tough decision, and whatever the answer there will be differeing opinions.........
The "casual" fan.... Every year still i hear at least once..."what # is RC" ..LOL i wish people like that would stay home so they don't block the view of real fans!!!
The numbering system does suck. I also don't know why it went from getting 1 point to 25 points to keep your number. And how does it help the casual fan? They say it is like Nascar, but the cars keep the numbers there, not the drivers. And I couldn't tell you who has ever won a NASCAR championship, came in 2nd, 3rd, etc because the cars keep the same number.
Lots of luck guys!
The "purists" of the sport (purist being code for "old farts") no longer apply. Money dictates what is or isn't done and there are some in our sport that would sell their souls just to keep the lights on.
I understand the want for permanent #'s, it relates to marketing which, relates to $.
You want a permanent #? Start at 101 and work backwards. #'s 1-100 are reserved for the nationally ranked racers that have raced and put points up the previous year. Simple.
The sport is the draw, not one personality or the other. Following one racer is for the "casual fan" that BillC spoke of. I doubt the powers-that-be will understand this or the individuals' support group (agents, sponsors, parents, etc) will acknowledge this.
One thing "they" will never have control of is the action on the track between the flags and THAT my friends, is why I got into this sport in the first place.
@SeventiesRacer - Of course I'm putting my "feelings" into the discussion. So is everybody else out here. My argument for Dowdy keeping his number if he continues to ride and score points is as sound as anything else I'm seeing here. And those who want to discourage the "casual" fan are some of the same people who scream about TV coverage (weekly). Without more of the casual fans, the coverage will never get better. It's already much better than in years past because there are more casual fans (who draw sponsors). Defending champ wears #1; points leader gets the red plate; and the "name" riders wear "their" numbers. If Reedy were out for a season with injuries, should he lose #22? IMO the Junkyard Dog should be #16 'til he hangs it up! Whose brainstorm idea was it to raise it from one point to 25 anyway?
I think when RC retired the AMA retired his #4 for five years.
@ kx408 do you take that Cinci Chilli 5 ways ??/
@ VISTAJIM
I dont know why I always think of you as Jungle Jim” Liberman,my dad and uncles did some dragging with the guy in the 60-s-70's before passing.....
"Did you hit Mid Ohio this past weekend bike races !!!!!!!!!!
I drove 24 hrs to Connecticut and back to buy another bike, but I did drive past Mid-Ohio twice over the weekend.I am going to vintage days there this weekend. Can you make it? It's a cool event.
BillC and everyone I know what you're saying but we must remember that for a sport to grow and get national exposure, you have to gain "casual fans" and turn a lot of them into diehards like us. I know it can drive you crazy at times with the "what # is RC stuff" but, if you think about it, that's the same kind of stuff you'd hear at an NFL or MLB game because they are so popular that the games draw "non-diehards". So that is really not such a bad thing! Half full, half empty... :)
@ VISTAJIM
No I have doctor plans tommorrow.... that should of been done months ago. Plus I still have a lot of problems with my sustained injuries from before the 4th......Man I wished I would of been at Red Bud instead of were I was.......Then again there could of been a lot of " what if's " kinda like life. or MX...........HAVE FUN
RCRDDW your right, I know that. we need everyone to see Moto Cross but the more it grows the more it changes also and thats hard for the real fans. i have always dis liked people that are "casual fans" no matter what sport it is. Like Football i don't watch it ever but some people never watch it but MUST see the Superbowl!! or never watch one game all year but have to watch the world series. Just like the Moto people who no nothing till the Race hits there home town then there in my way asking stupid questions!! LOL
