Reports: Brett Metcalfe Injured

Thursday, June 28, 2012 | 2:55 PM
Ping was out at Glen Helen today and right when he got there he noticed Yoshimura Suzuki's Brett Metcalfe have a crash. He went over the bars in the middle of a rhythm section. It appears that he broke his wrist and tibia. He's already loaded up and off to the hospital. That's all the information we have at this time.

That sucks. Metty is usually so strong towards the end of the Nationals. I was looking forward to seeing him again at Southwick.

So Alessi is getting a phone call today? Is that what this news means?

I hope Alessi does get the call up, he deserves it.

That sticks, He was having a real bad year so far from what most expected anyway.

@ OrganDonor, do you have somebody higher up in the points standings in mind?

I posted this before but, even IF #800 does get the call, will he take the bike / support with little to no practice / aclimation time on the Factory RM-Z?

Mike was having some of the best performances of his career on the Factory Suzuki a few years ago. This could be a golden opportunity for #800...........and for Suzuki.

Too bad for Metty, hope he heals up soon. The corral is starting to look empty at the Yoshimura camp. As for Alessi getting a call, wouldn't that be a slap in the face, since they didn't want to help him out?

Suzuki doesn't want to help the Alessi's out because they had someone disassemble parts from his works bike because they were paranoid that they weren't getting what Reed had. Team contracts specifically say that riders are not allowed to do that. They have only themselves to blame for Suzuki not supporting them.

I really think that the sport would keep its stars if we would get away from these semi supercross tracks and go back to "natural terrain" and actually create a cross country track (which was the original idea behind Moto-Cross). Too many injuries! If you listen to some of the old-timers like Hannah, LaPorte, Marty Smith and the likes they would tell you that the tracks were rougher and more tiring but safer. Go on Youtube and look at some of the old grand prixs races and you'll notice the lack of deep dragging of the tracks but there appears to be more lines instead in the corners instead of the deep one or two berms you see in the Nationals. I do remember the Euros saying that Glenn Helen (especially the huge jump at the north end of the track) was dangerous. It might be thrilling to watch the big air but not if it's going to get people hurt.

Hate to say it, but maybe it's a good thing. Metty might need a little time to re-group and start riding to his full potential....

I don't think we'll be hearing about Suzuki calling the Alessi's. They went down that bumpy road before.

Here's hoping all goes well for Metty. As far as Suzuki calling Mike, I don't know. If he could beat RD 5, then maybe. But even with a factory bike, I just don't see it happening. With that in mind, I think it would be too much of a long shot for them to invest in him. If they gave him bikes and parts he would probably be up for some type of salary as well. So I'm thinking it won't happen. Besides, he looks pretty darn good on what he is riding. And, with the results he is getting these days,(no one has to point out that a lot of other top tier riders aren't out there, cuz everybody, yes everybody races whoever is able to get to the line, not thier fault who is and isn't race ready.) Anyway he looks good on a lesser bike, and that bike will net him a good series position in the end. Probably be in the same spot no matter which bike he rides. So why not stay where he's at? He is doing MUCH better than I thought he would. Just my 2 cents worth. Who reallyknows?

Did any of you read the Mike Genova interview? They are out to prove a point to all the big factory teams that they can beat them and in the interview it sounds like Genova and Tony Alessi are on the same page so I doubt Alessi would take the ride and I doubt Suzuki would ask him to ride their bike again. Motoconcepts is getting bigger and bigger and Im sure will soon be getting the good stuff from some major manufacturer which should keep Alessi right where he is.

Damn it Metty! This is not the news I wanted to see. Hope Suzuki calls Byrner or Goerke. I'd rather see someone like Albertson ride a factory Suzuki in 15th than have Alessi back. They'd have to spring for another semi for Tony's head alone.
