Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Wrap Up– March 19, 2012
Bel-Ray racers were in action this past weekend at the Monster Energy Supercross series in Indianapolis, Indiana, and at the Thor Mill Creek Spring Classic in Mill Creek, Alabama.
Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki's Blake Wharton started well in the main event and was in 3rd place when the race was stopped due to an injured rider on the track. On the restart, Wharton moved into 2nd place, and was closing on the rider in the lead, Ken Roczen. When Roczen made a mistake and went down, Wharton was there to capitalize and grab the lead. He held on to take the victory and the top step of the podium. Teammate Hunter Hewitt struggled in his heat race and was forced to the last chance qualifier, where he finished out of a qualifying position and did not make the main event.
The Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki Amateur team also had a successful weekend with Michael Mossiman finishing on the podium with a 3rd place in the 85 (12-13) Modified class and Daniel Baker finishing 2nd in Open Amateur Non-Pro, and 3rd in 450B Stock. Jace Owen was the team’s standout racer with a 3rd in the 450B Stock class and Overall Championships in the 250B Stock and Modified classes.
The newest team member of Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing racer, Kyle Regal was the only representative in the 450 class this weekend. Team leader, Josh Hansen, injured his knee and he was forced to withdraw from the evening’s racing. In only his second race this season, and first with the team, Regal made the main event with his 2nd place finish in the LCQ. Regal put in consistent laps and finished 16th place when the checkered flag flew.
The series continues in Toronto, Canada this Saturday night.
