Monster Energy Supercross Generates Record-breaking Numbers Through First Half of 2012 Season

AURORA, Ill. – With the world’s best riders providing some of the most captivating on-track battles in the 38-year history of Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, Feld Motor Sports® is pleased to announce record-setting growth through the first part of the 2012 season.

From on-site attendance at the races, to pit party attendance, television ratings, digital platform views, and social media traffic, Monster Energy Supercross is experiencing record pace growth.

Coming off a record setting attendance figure of 820,000 for the 2011 season, the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Championship is currently 1% ahead of 2011, and on track to set a new attendance record. Through the first nine races, over 460,000 fans have passed through the turnstiles, including three sell-out crowds at both Angel Stadium in Anaheim races, as well as Atlanta’s Georgia Dome. Both the eighth and ninth race of the season from Atlanta and St. Louis also set single-race attendance records of 71,009 and 59,742 respectively.

In addition to watching the racing action unfold out on the track each week, the Monster Energy Pit Parties have hosted more traffic than ever over the first half of the season, also experiencing an increase over the 2011 season with over 220,000 fans taking part in the pit parties to date. The Monster Energy Can Redemption initiative has not only proved to be hugely beneficial in Monster Energy Supercross’ efforts to Go Green, but with its complimentary access to the Pit Party, it has enabled hundreds of thousands of fans the opportunity to get up close and personal with the stars of the sport and experience what the championship’s prominent sponsors have to offer.

The groundbreaking new television broadcast package with SPEED and CBS Sports has produced the highest ratings Monster Energy Supercross has ever seen, thanks in large part to the 10 LIVE SPEED shows this season. Since the opening race in January, SPEED has recorded staggering ratings increases in M35-54 (20% increase over 2011) and M18-49 (14% increase over 2011). To cap it all off, the LIVE broadcast from Atlanta, on February 25, produced the highest ratings ever for Monster Energy Supercross.

In total, the Atlanta race was the single-most watched Monster Energy Supercross race of all time, both in person, on television, and through the exclusive behind-the-scenes web and social media video content.

The exclusive weekly Supercross LIVE! online video platform that has been rebranded and revamped this season is posting epic numbers of viewers. Over 1.8 million viewers have watched the exclusive online video content to date, increasing at a rate of over 200,000 views per week.

The record number of digital viewers doesn’t end with the Supercross LIVE! online video content.  The Monster Energy Supercross Facebook page recently surpassed 1 million fans, experiencing 140% growth over last season. Just last week alone, Monster Energy Supercross’ Facebook page received a record-breaking 76,000 new likes.

As the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Championship entered the second half of the season this past weekend at St. Louis’ Edward Jones Dome, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto won his fifth race of the season to extend his lead to 13 points ahead of Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey, who currently has two race wins. Add JRGMX’s James Stewart, a two-time Supercross Class Champion, into the mix and the road to Las Vegas looks very promising. As this trio of elite racers continues to compete at a blistering pace on the road to Las Vegas, the final stop May 5th at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium is selling tickets at a record pace.

Tune into the enhanced exclusive weekly video content from Supercross LIVE! during the entire 2012 season on SupercrossOnline.com, the Official Website of Monster Energy Supercross.

This should mean even more live races for 2013 then....Now lets get the MX numbers pumped up!

And with Daytona coming up, and then Indianapolis, they should get higher still. I know Indy always has a very big crowd, I have ben going to that race forever, and have never seen a small crowd.. Well over 50,000 every year.

I'm shocked to hear both Anaheims were sold out, I saw tons of empty seasts on TV when I watched the race. With such small numbers for the Dodger Stadium round, move it to the East Coast. Make Dallas a West coast round.

Absolutely no excuse for even a single 2013 race not to be on live tv. I guarantee if you put a race in the Northeast, it will sell out every year. The stadium and fans suck at LA, and Seattle almost always makes for terrible racing because of the weather. It would be very easy to put a New England race towards the end of the schedule when the weather is usually pretty good. I'm dying to get to one, but can't make the trip from CT with the closest being a 9 hour drive and having to deal with a border crossing that's not as simple as it used to be.

Hopefully we will get all 17 rounds live on Speed TV next year.

This is great news for the sport! I hope it can keep growing! It has came a long way from the "Wide World of Sports" when we had to wait months just to see a race. You young uns are spoiled lol, that is ok lets keep getting it better and then the athaletes of Motocross and Supercross can get paid what the stick and ball sporst get paid then maybe move on up to the Nascar level of pay also. I think and hope it happens.

It is awesome news for the sport, just would be nice if they'd actually put some money back into the sport for the riders. $12,000 to win a main event is ridiculous

Now if they could just make the next push next season to offer all live races on SPEED and eliminate CBS, then I couldn't imagine it getting any better than that. It's been SOOO nice to have it live on SPEED and have a break from CBS for a while. I'm quite tempted to not watch the races when they're on CBS. I wish they had live online streaming to watch for when the races are on CBS.

That's great, but it won't matter until the payback allows riders to at least survive on what they can earn at a supercross. The 60th best golfer earns more from his event winnings than the supercross champion.

The promoters are amking all this money with TV packages and sold out races, but the purses stay the same. Makes you wonder where all this money is going..

Heres hoping that Speed TV Australia put the races on without a weeks delay (ESPN). The only saving grace is we can now watch it live on the net. Glad it is growing so fast. Progress please!

You forgot to ad the part where Atlanta always has some of the best racing. Maybe if enough people say it loud enough and enough times we can make it happen!!!!

ATLANTA 2!!!!!!!!!!!! ATLANTA 2!!!!!!!!!! ATLANTA 2!!!!!!!!!!

Got a feeling that it won't be as good as it "could of been" without Chad Reed and the fact BUBBA isn't challenging "yet" Hopefully James opens a can of whoop soon and make it interesting again.

Really miss not having Reed giving it

Bring back the double header weekends, those were great.Always made a weekend trip to Pontiac.only do a couple a year and give the riders a week or two off through the season.Do Anaheim in the West and Atlanta in the East.( they used to do Pontiac and Seattle and I think some others)

hey motodog1977.. did you ever think its because no one gives two fcks about your offroad racing? why would i want to spend hours watching some dude go through a desert pinned, when i could just watch that on terriferma 1 from the old days? theres a reason motocross and supercross gets more attention and not your offroad racing bullsh!t. quite frankly, no one cares about your comment and it did absolutely no good because its not going to effect the actual outcome your hoping for because this is a blog. you didnt report this to any actual source that is going to reconsider what you've said.. send a letter to speed you jackass.

Hey Joe. When you get an education and learn to write with some form of English that the common person can understand. In the mean time.

JACK-WADS like you don't mean squat to what someone of OBVIOUS intelligence means to the industry pal. Go back and hide under mama's dress sweetheart. You're gonna get hurt in a real man's world.

Well, one thing is for certain. There's at least one online subscriber to this web site who knows what they are talking about. (And not taking any nonsense of what he calls those who hide under their mothers skirts)

You are indeed correct motodogx1977 and like you, I've been out here doing what we do for many decades and unlike the majority of these kids who can not afford anything more than what mommy and daddy buy for them, can afford what the industry demands. Today's children and audience to these events have little interests in anything other than, like you said, being entertained.

You're a true enthusiast Jeff. Here's to the hope that the EDUCATED population of off-road can, as you said, get a grip on what is NOT happening in the industry and get a grip before it disappears off the face of the earth. We're not far from it when it comes to off-road and I'm sure this is what you're referring to!

MOTOXDOG1977 FOR PRESIDENT!

Good stuff sir!

@Joe, do you even realize that when Motodog mentions off road racing, that includes motocross and supercross as well.. Because they are racing :off the road" as well..Good lord kid, he is complaining about the rising cost of families and kids to get into out sport, and you berate him for it?? Do you even have a clue??

Profile Picture

Motoxdogg1977, what exactly do you want to happen? Do you want the prices on everything to go down so our sport will be easier to participate in? The price of everything is on the rise, no matter what your hobby is. Do you want your local Honda dealer to go out and cut trails for you to ride on? SX is entertainment. That's exactly what it is. But it also inspires. I took my son to th Dallas SX and he was blown away. But he also begged me to go ride the next day. We loaded up and PAID to ride the local track. That payment helps keep the track open and therefore helps preserve our sport. And the energy drinks do put back into our sport. They pay tons of riders to endorse their product. And not just the top pros. Did you have the same view on Camel Ciggarettes when they were the title sponsor of the sport back in the day? Our sport needs big name sponsors to survive. Not just MX and SX but every major off road event series has to have a big time sponsor. If you want to save our sport, get involved and write to your senator and beg him not to allow any more land closures and keep the ones we have open. But don't complain about SX being just entertainment and act like it's some fake form of motorcycle racing. I'm 42 years old and I hope it's around till the day I die. It gets better and better all the time.

bd200 wrote: 6:51pm March 8, 2012

@Way95--One of the biggest complaints and mine too. Is with all these TV deals, and Energy drink sponsers pouring all this money into our sport, where is the money going?? It isnt going back into the sport.. And YES, I want the price of bikes to drop so everyone can participate if they want to. Why is that a problem??

Profile Picture
way95 wrote: 8:47pm March 8, 2012

Hey, I'm with ya. I was hoping to get a new bike this year but looks like it's not going to happen. The reality is that it's a business. Most sponsors are not in it for the purpose of putting a whole lot back into the sport, but putting cash in their pockets. When you look at attendence levels of SX and MX and compare that to what the riders are getting, really it's pretty pathetic. But I put that on the AMA. They are the sanctioning body and it is up to them to have the interests of the riders and the sport in mind. Look at the NFL, they carry a 53 man roster during the season. Only 30-35 might see the field on Sunday, but they all get a healthy paycheck. I know the 20th place rider in SX and the 40th place guy in MX isn't going home with much more than gas money.
