Tomac In For Monster Energy Cup
Thursday, October 6, 2011 | 1:15 PM
AURORA, Ill. – Feld Motor Sports® announced today that GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac, of Cortez, Colo., will compete at the inaugural Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on October 15.
The 18-year old made his Western Regional Supercross Lites class debut in 2011 and closed out the season second-overall, just six points shy of the championship. In 2011, Tomac won two races and earned four podium finishes. Proving to be a title contender, Tomac is ready to lay it on the line for the Monster Million.
“Everybody is going to be riding on the edge, especially since there is so much money up for grabs,” said Tomac. “With the hybrid track blending elements from both supercross and motocross, bike set-up is going to be key. It's going to be so different from any track we currently race on. I'm sure Ricky (Carmichael) and Jeremy's (McGrath) track design will make for some great racing."
With $1 million on the line, the Honda rider will be using his experience racing supercross and motocross as a guide to battling the Monster Energy Cup track.
"Anytime you're on a track with a veteran like Kevin Windham or top guy like Ryan Villopoto, you're going to learn something new,” said Tomac. “You get to see how they ride a corner or go through a rhythm section and hopefully you learn something from that. It should be a lot of fun and racing against guys like them will make it all that much more exciting.”
The unique hybrid track will consist of supercross/motocross terrain and will have a tremendous motocross-style influence, making it unlike any other stadium race in the world. This track will be the perfect blend of supercross and motocross combined and created into the ultimate battleground. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000, awarding the winner a $100,000 check, and for the “first time ever” $1 Million will be paid to a rider that wins all three main events.
Tickets for the 2011 Monster Energy Cup can be purchased at the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office, UNLVtickets outlets, online at www.UNLVtickets.com, www.MonsterEnergyCup.com, or by phone at (702) 739-FANS. Tickets will be available at the Sam Boyd Stadium Box Office on the day of the event only.

250F I would assume?
JS7 is racing his 2003 KX 125
Sorry, JS7 is riding a Macio with a Bultaco engine, Sacs forks. Rumor is he will also have a modified Hodaka head.
Yeah, they left out the most interesting question: 250 or 450? Heck, I guess he could even run a big bore 250 if he wanted to.
You guys see this crap?? http://brotocross.com/news/mxlarges-top-250-riders-in-the-world-swing-and-a-miss-bro/
BillC...I agree with some of what he says but its only his opinion. Dumb nazi? I think hes the deluded one. Why do all you yanks think Roczens ride at the mxdn was a fluke because it started raining. It rains all year round you know and even on race meetings. Dont think i would of put Osborne up there and Barcia should be there. Maybe Wilson higher, cos hes ama champ. Baggetts not all that at the moment but will be in a few years. Its only his 2nd year pro. Go Europe!!
UK201 I think Roczen could be the #1, We will see next year. But that list is VERY Euro leaning... I mean Tommy Searle #3.... Did he ever get a top 3 when he raced in the USA?? The guy who did that list has something agenst the USA for sure.
That guy has alot of love for the sport but he will always lean to the gps. Same as you lot would of put Tomac,DD,Cuningham in. Think Searle got a few podiums until he got injured. Same old story! I recon one world series with us all together, that would be good.
LMFAO !!! who made that friggin list. Hey look at the right side of the page and read the article that says "Japanese Toilet Company Makes Motorcycle That Runs On Shit. For The Win. " LMAO!!! And who the hec makes a motocross site called BROCROSS!!! i sure hope JS7 is not involved. For a minute i thought it was April fools
@Bill C WTF man. I've been cracking up over that brotocross crap. Who eve takes the time to sit down and write that crap? You serious BRO?
Ummmmmmmmmmm UK201, I would make a list with some facts to back it up, HOW do you put Searle in front of guys he DID NOT beat when he was here un less you are VERY biased??
.dgizzy1 I don't get it either or how someone would try and defend it!!
That link is hilarious! Obviously the guy who made it doesn't know crap.... one could argue Roczen is #1, but the way Baggett rode in the qualifier and destroyed everyone he would have to be higher....I would also say Wilson is number one as he got better toward the end of the MX and had he not rode the MX nations with a broken wrist, he woud won. Either way, Searle is like 9th, Osborne and Antsie are not in the top 10.. Cunnigham, Tomac, Barcia, Bogle, all should be on the list or considered for the list.
BTW- next years 250's is going to be really good. DD on a PC bike, Tomac, Bogle, Bagget, Roczen, Musquin, Cunningham and of course Wilson.... going to be a awesome year. Also think Jesse Nelson and couple of the other new pros will be up there as well.
Since the subject is the Monster Energy Cup, there are several top guys without announced contracts. The event is a week away and some (like Stewart) have committed to the event.
What are the rules? Can a guy invited and committed simply show up with a bike and pay the entry fee if they are not currently under a contract to ride?
That guys response to the list is way over the top and what alot of people would say "typical american". but im not gonna stereotype every american!
Its just a list, and someone's opinion. To say this guy knows nothing about mx is very harsh. We could be here all day and never agree on the same order!
You could argue that rozcen is No1 and i personally think he'll prove that over the next couple years, but i think most of those riders are capable of beating each other so its hard to put them in order. (except osbourne)
The american series is better and where the money is but i get a little annoyed when people talk europe down. You need to except that theres alot of good up and coming europeon riders who are as good as the up and coming americans. Surely thats good for the sport?!
BiilC..Searle can run with the best of them,he proved that in the gps this year. I think Sminch sums it up pretty well. Baggett destroying everyone in practice dont mean much when he rode like a girl on race day.
James on a 125 could probably make top five for sure ,
Are we gonna see DArryn Durham on that PC green demon??? so glad he got that ride
JonR920: nowhere is there a rule that you can't just show up and race without a team contract in place. As if Monster would refuse to let James ride, no matter what he plans on riding. He can back out though, just as Reed has.
