Your Collection: 1971 CT70H
Sunday, September 4, 2011 | 5:00 AMThis weeks collection comes to us from Steve ‘Bodybag’ Flanders of MXTalkRadio.com.
"Attached are some pictures of one of my 1971 CT70H KO’s (Mini Trail). The unique thing about ‘H’ Models was their 4-spd transmission and common clutch, unlike the standard CT70’s which had a 3-spd and centrifugal clutch. This particular CT was purchased in 2002 and restored back to it’s original condition by me. Not a single detail was overlooked, and in fact it’s probably way better now than they ever were right from the factory."

nice rig, wonder what percentage of us started on something similar?
@braaap I started on a Sears and Robucks 3 and a half horse solid frame mini bike. My dad bought my sister and I each one (so we wouldn't fight of course) and we rode the wheels off of them. Really thought we had something as we were real young and the first in our area to have mini bikes. Imagine being the envy of the "hood" with equipment like that! lol Then I moved up to a Rupp Roadster and learned how to wheelie! Remember how cool I thought I was and how many times I ate dirt. Never gave up thogh.
Oh yeah, top end down hill with the wind on the Sears was a whopping 22 mph!! (and mine was a little faster than my sisters)
That's just like my first bike, awesome.
Do you wanna sell it ???
That was my 2nd bike and I had the 4 speed only my bike was gold I think? I remember traking it in for a honda SL 100 and the dealer said he never saw one with that manymiles on it! I'm not sure that was a long time ago but I think I had over 80 thousand miles on it all from the backroads farms and trails. I learned the bacic stuff with it valves points and all the mainantanace stuff. I think the rod finnaly gave out on it.
I remember it all so well, 1971 I was 11 years young and my neighbor's kid was gifted one just like this. My first pipe burn on the inside of my leg was born! Then he let me ride the mini with me up front operating and he was on the back teaching me how to shift. Then my first solo ride... my God I was hooked.
Anyway all thee years later and I have never seen or heard of a CT70 with a 4 speed. Many arguments over this. I nearly believed them when they said I must have been imagining the 4 speed and clutch. So my memories are correct, now fully endorsed thanks Steve! I can sleep better at night now, thank you.
Holy Cow! That thing looks brand spankin new! To say "Great job" would be an understatement. In 1971 I was 11 years and got my first bike....the mini trail 50. I really wanted the CT70 or the SL70 but my folks thought the 50 was I needed. Again, great job.
These were quite popular back then (more so the 3 speed, I imagine). I started with a green Broncco my dad got me; then I moved up to the XL70. Beat the snot out of that thing.
Sweet bike steve, always fun to have a cool pitbike around.
I had a 3HP Taco mini bike and all the other kids had 3, 4 and 5 hp bikes, then Tony Freese, my next door neighbor, got a big present for Christmas. A big box. He opened it to find a smaller box. Over and over, smaller and smaller, until he found a key with a note to go outside. He went out there and found a Honda Trail 70 just like that one in the front yard. It was my dream bike. Although I never had one, luckily I was able to get into motocross a couple of years later, and there I got my REAL dream bike. That Trail 70 will always be special in my heart.
Boy does that bring back memories!!! In 1971 I was thinking of getting that bike and instead ended up with an XL-100.
I cruise around my races on a 1991 CT70, 12V version without the crap points.
I had a red SL-70 with a poweroll performance kit- and a hooker header. It was still no match for the XR-75- the dream bike I never got.
One thing I remember about that CT-70, was it's tendencie to rip the 'fold-in' handlebars out of your hands, when negotiating some tough whoops or sand. And having the gas tank right undernneath my butt always made me nervous.
Unbelievable resto, fantastic job!! That was almost my first bike back in '76, instead I got a '73 Kawi G4TR 100 rotary-valve 2 stroke with the dual range tranny - I wish I still had tha bike!! I rode one earlier this year, amazing how something that feels so huge when you are 13 can feel so tiny when you are 44!!!
