Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship
Series Statistical Report

Rockstar Energy Unadilla National
Unadilla - New Berlin, N.Y. - August 13

  • Unadilla was a part of the inaugural AMA Pro Motocross Championship in 1972.
  • Unadilla has some of the most uniquely named obstacles in the country like the Gravity Cavity, the Wall and the Skyshot.
  • Scheduled the week following the Loretta Lynn's Amateur National Motocross Championship, Unadilla will be the site of several riders' professional debut. Justin Bogle leads that group of riders, competing as a member of GEICO Honda.
  • Ryan Dungey and Chad Reed have took the overall win the past two seasons at Unadilla.
  • Ryan Villopoto is the third rider to carry the red plate in the 450 Class this season. This marks just the second time in 2011 that the points lead has changed hands however, as both Reed and Dungey shared the distinction following the opening round.
  • Justin Barcia will make his 450 Class debut this weekend, filling in for American Honda. He will ride for the team the remainder of the season.
  • Only nine points separate Ryan Villopoto from Ryan Dungey and Chad Reed in the 450 Class standings.
  • Ryan Dungey's 450 Class win at Washougal was the 13th of his career, putting him into a tie for 8th all-time. He already sits inside the top 10, after just a year-and-a-half of premier class competition.
  • With a runner-up finish at Washougal, Ryan Villopoto has finished on the podium in nine of his 10 career starts.
  • Ryan Villopoto is the only rider in either class to finish on the overall podium at each round this season.
  • 250 Class points leader Dean Wilson has finished second overall in five of eight rounds this summer. He has yet to win an overall.
  • Wilson has the most points of any rider in the series across both classes, despite not having an overall win to his credit. He also boasts the best finishing average in the series.
  • Blake Baggett boast a series-leading eight moto wins and five overall victories this season.
  • Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki has won every 250 Class moto and overall of the 2011 season.

Unadilla - it's an ancient Portuguese Greek word that made it to the Americas. The natives in that valley had a catapult that they used in ceremonies. We're talking hundreds of years back. They shot fire rings to "the Unadilla" for his protection in sea battle because they had boats and were once sea farers . Those same Hobokens also roamed around the Binghampton/ Meadow Valley area but they tried hard to have permanent villages in the Unadilla Valley.

I have a couple of funny "Statistics" from the Dilla. They are mostly my grandmothers stats. The last time I raced there was 93 and my grandmother went with us as she always wanted to see that part of the country. We had a hell of a trip but looking back we would always laugh at our luck.

First off During the first moto, She went over on the back side of Gravity Cavity and appearently while trying to cross down thru it along the fence line, she slid at and rolled all the way down. She was a heavy set lady so once she got going she went! Anyway, after the moto I was sitting out our truck and there she came up with her pink blouse and pants all grass stained up from her trip.

Then when the second 125 moto was going to the line, I believe it was Jeff Dement had got to the line early and had to pee so he hid behind the start box looking back to make sure nobody could see him, unfortunately, he was peeing right toward her. She was laughing her A$$ off by this point in her day.

Then the rider parked next to us came off the track from the second 250 moto. He was riding 250's with me. He was a double digit but I don't want to say his name but maybe if he reads this he would come forward nowdays, but he came off the track and had appearently crapped his pants really bad... like really really bad and as my Grandma came walking back up from the moto, there stood this pantsless crapped up guy.

My day went no better as in practice I litterally Ran over Damon Bradshaw and his bike. He fell in front of me and I couldn't stop so I pinned it and went right over. Thought he was going to kill me. Then I got a flat in one of the motos. I have a picture that Thom Veety took of me sitting along the track watching the race as Mike Larocco lapped me. It is extra cool as my grandmother is in the back ground taking a pick of me and you can see her grass stained pink blouse!

Funny trip, Miss my granny!! She passed in 2004.

May not be a P in Binghamton, but you forgot your S in It's. Unless you are a caveman or something and then you sound just fine.

MTY, you did the right thing to pin it. Whenever somebody falls in front of me, I gas it and use them like a jump. The suspension will soak them up and not hurt them usually, and I don't have to endo like hell and hurt them worse by front wheel braking into their gut.

Another thing I firmly believe: if they crash in front of me and I have the choice to run over the bike or the body, I go for the body. The bike can send handlebars through your spokes etc, leaving you crying the blues. Usually the rider you're about to run over is scrambling to get out of your way so you don't run over him, and a lot of the time you'll miss him because he's got a brain and he's actively trying to avoid a grisly fate.

All in all, these two strategies work great in minimizing the total damage to both parties when one rider crashes in front of another.

If I ever crash in front of any of you, just treat me like another jump. All I ask is that you don't run over me with one of those fat, lard-assed four strokes. If you ran over me with a two stroke, I would be honored.

Here is a fact. Allisports knew all along that the Dilla round would not be shown in Washington State in May because the stinking Sounder Soccer game already was scheduled in March, but did bother to state that when they released their TV schedule.

So essentially, suckers like me and every other moto fan here in WA, have had to wait up to the last minute anticipating the moto on TV, only to be let down because the powers that be did not have the intestinal fortitude to announce from the beginning that Unidilla would NOT be shown on TV in Washington State at all. We get Sounders Weekly and Pre-game during the MX time slot and the Magic School Bus after the Sounders game!

Thanks to everybody involved for not letting Washington State moto fans know months ahead of time that after a two week break we will not be able to see the race.
