Dungey and Martin Excel for Pro Taper
Corona, CA – Round seven of the twelve stop 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship went off Saturday in front of a solid crowd at Spring Creek MX Park. Millville, MN marks the homecoming event for Minnesota native Pro Taper riders Ryan Dungey and Alex Martin. Both riders put their local knowledge to good use in route to a 450 class victory for Dungey and a career best top five for Martin in the 250 class.
From nearby Belle Plaine, MN, Dungey always seems to rise to the occasion at Spring Creek. Riding a three year overall win streak at the track, Millville seemed like the perfect event to make up some much needed ground in the overall championship points. Ryan did just that, cutting the pre race 22-point deficit down to seven when the final checkered flag flew. With 2-1 moto finishes, Dungey took the overall victory and added to his ten moto podium streak. “Obviously, being here at Millville and having the hometown crowd is great; it’s always a treat to be back here because I love the track and the fans are great,” said Dungey. “I grew up with a lot of people who came out today, so that was an extra bonus. Finally, I’m glad to get another win for the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team – This is a good step in the right direction for the championship.”
Team Eleven10 Mods Honda privateer Alex Martin has been slightly overshadowed this summer by teammate Darryn Durham, despite logging some impressive rides himself. At his home track, Alex scored a career best fifth overall, beating out over a dozen factory supported riders. The break out ride catapulted Martin to 12th in the championship points standings with five rounds to go. With some newly found confidence, Martin is looking forward to working his way up into the top ten in points by series end.
Round eight moves northwest to Washougal MX Park in Washougal, Washington this Saturday, July 23rd. Be sure to tune in to @ProTaper on Twitter for updates throughout the day at all of this season’s outdoor nationals.
