Les Smith to JGRMX

Tuesday, May 24, 2011 | 11:35 AM
Smith will Substitute for the Injured Justin Brayton at Freestone Raceway

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. Les Smith will race the vacant Muscle/Milk/Toyota/JGRMX Team YZ450F of Justin Brayton while Brayton recovers from an ankle injury.  Smith will debut with the team this Saturday, May 28 at Freestone Raceway in Wortham, Tex.  Smith will continue with the team until Brayton returns to racing, which is expected to be within a few weeks.

“I am beside myself, I never have had an opportunity like this,” said the elated Smith.  “The guys are asking me things I have never been asked, like what kind of seat do you like?  How do you like this?  How do you want that?  I have always just rode what I was given.  I really want to capitalize on this and do the best I can,” he added.

Smith, a North Carolina based privateer was an easy choice for the team.  “Les is a hard working guy who unexpectedly lost a ride with another team before the season started,” said Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGRMX Team manager Jeremy Albrecht.  “He’s local, and he is a customer of our retail suspension service so we already have dyno charts of his current settings.  We can just match our works parts to his graphs and we should be very close on short notice,” continued Albrecht.

The first moto from Freestone Raceway will be broadcast live on allisports.com and Fuel TV at 2:00 p.m. (EST) May 28.  The second moto will air on SPEED at 10:00 p.m.  Fuel TV will broadcast a highlights and re-cap show of the event Thursday, June 2 at 10:00 p.m.  Follow Les Smith on Twitter via @lessmith44.

what an opportunity for Les. Hopefully he can adapt to the new yammi's better than most. Never seen les on a big bike but i'm sure he can rip. Plus he's been mentored by Jeff Emig. Jeremy albrect (jgr team manager) was Emig's Mechanic for years in the late 90's and remained good friends. I'm sure they wouldn't have pursued les smith unless he showed some speed on the bike. Lets see him rip, see if he can pull a dungey

It's nice to see a local racer get a chance to be a star in his own right. after all the hard work and determination it was great for a major team to step in and give him a break...Hope he does well and show his talent...Good Luck!!!!!
