Sweet bike -- original # 1 and everything!! Yamaha had a lot of confidence to ship their bikes with the #1 already on the plates, didn't they?
I started racing on the little sister to that bike, the '85 YZ 80. Always loved the looks of the red and white! Blue is not a 'power color' in my opinion..

Very sweet bike.......................yzf125 you can keep the tank white. My friend purchased one of these new and I could not figure out how his tank never yellowed. We raced on several hard pack tracks with all the red clay used for the jumps. I asked him how did he keep his tank and whole bike so white...he told me after every weekend of racing he would scrub his bike with Comet and then spray it down with WD 40. His bike looked whiter than new when he sold it!!!

If you used any fuel additive, such as Klotz, that is likely what yellowed your tank. I had a '92 CR125 that turned within a month of using the garbage. I've never run it through any other bike and had no problems with yellowing, regardless of how many red sand/clay tracks that I rode.

Never ridden...If, i'm not mistaken that had BASS and Z spokes. Neither worked. I had an '85 KX 125, great era in MX no doubt. I think i paid about $1500 bucks for it NEW.

The reason for the comment in there about me is because I did this story on that very bike on my site. http://www.pulpmx.com/stories/tell-us-story-jason-tom-matthes

My 3rd bike ever (82KX 125, 83 Husky CR 250). Red and white was super clean. Downgraded by most all mags as slow, especially when compared to the monster KX 125. I thought it was great. B.A.S.S. was such a great innovation once you disconnected the cable. Nice restro!

That Bike was Slow as Hell... A PSI pipe mad a nice increase but was still slow compared to the CR and KX of that year.

...re assface: dom' skippy...matthes found out firsthand. his article is funny and will bring back a lot of forgotten memories. i had an '83, and dunno but what it was even more beautiful and even more slow. always wanted a poster of a beautiful blonde posing with that bike...i tried to help a buddy out with an '85, and was one of the few times that i just freakin' gave up, bottomless piggy bank be dam'd...his also acted like the rear shock was nothing but spring, "boing, boing, boing"...hell, u were done with the jump and trying to accel and the rear was still boing'ing...LoL
