MSR/Answer/Pro Taper Create Benefit for Injured Flagger
Motocross Accident Leaves 15 Year Old Boy in Critical Condition

LAS VEGAS — Kyle Crider, a 15 year old Las Vegas native, was tragically injured while caution flagging at a practice event at Boulder City Motocross. Crider, a direct relative to the facility owners, was unprotected and hit by an oncoming motorcycle while attempting to flag for a downed rider. Crider was transported via helicopter to UMC Trauma in Las Vegas, where he remains in critical condition. He suffers multiple injuries, including head trauma and brain swelling. Unfortunately, his family does not have health insurance.

MSR, Answer Racing, and Pro Taper have generously stepped up to aid the family in time of need. Donated for auction, an autographed James Stewart jersey, Kevin Windham jersey, and Nick Wey jersey will be sold online with all proceeds going directly to the family. Additionally, signed Ryan Dungey bar pads will be raffled at local facilities.

Boulder City Motocross representative Bryce Davis commented, “It’s tragic. Kyle is my cousin and it really opens your eyes when something like this hits so close to home. It’s great to see MSR, Answer and Pro Taper lend out a helping hand in time of need. His family is so extremely appreciative of all the support they’ve gotten throughout this horrible ordeal.”

The jerseys will be auctioned on eBay, starting Monday, February 21, 2011 and running through February 28. The auctions can be found by searching through eBay using keywords “KYLE CRIDER BENEFIT.”

Is there or will there be a fund set up for donations? Please let us know. Sending prayers for Kyle.

I've always wondered if this could happen. Should protective gear be worn? At minimum, something like a skateboard helmet? Look at NASCAR pit crews now, helmets. At work we can't go in to our warehouse without a hard hat, safety glasses and boots...

So tragic... not saying that as a flagger Kyle made any mistakes in this tragic accident, but in an effort to train flaggers and keep flaggers as safe as possible Mid-Atlantic Fallen Riders Association offers a Flagger Safety Video for flagger training and flagger safety vests. They can be contacted at midatlanticfallenriders.org. It is a not-for-profit and all proceeds help fallen riders.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Kyle and his family. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he gets back out riding and flagging soon!

At Mini O's the Supercross flaggers wear helmets if I remember correctly. This was a result of an accident that occurred in the past there.

Maybe it's time to implement safety gear (Helmets) for track workers just like the pit crews in auto-racing.

Sad news. Anyone who flags knows just how risky it can be. Let us know where we can send donations to help the family in this difficult time.

The Brett Downey Safety Foundation provided helmets to the flaggers at the amateur nationals last year. Promoters should enforce that they wear one. So sad, prayers sent to the family and to Kyle. If anyone finds out where we can donate, please post...

Donations are being excepted through PayPal through this link; https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=YZ7QK64MN9GJ8

The support and prayers are greatly appreciated. I showed this to the family and they burst into tears. They cannot express how grateful they are for the concern.

We have ordered "skateboard-style" helmets for anyone who is on the track. As riders, we accept and understand the risk when go out on to the track and its sad to see this happen to a flagger. If any other organizations, venues or promoters have read this, please email me. We are working on a group account to order helemts through.

Thanks again to everyone.

My dad had this same thing happen to him when I raced. He was the finish line flagger and a C rider tried to whip it off the finish line table top and highsided the bike directly into my fathers head. He ended up with bleeding on the brain and major swelling. In an odd way it also helped us to find out he had had prior strokes that he never new he had. My thoughts and prayers are with this boy.

Not unlike a serviceman flaggers put themselves in harms way and I pray for this kid. I hope everyone realizes that flaggers although normally underappreciated are an essential part of MX/SX and I hope that everyone will be thinking of Kyle and his family and pray for the best.

I just dontated to this little guy's fund... and personal challenge each of you to reach into your hearts and wallet and dig out something to help out also!

On the flip side... WHY would a family NOT have health insurance!! I am in the insurance industry and what bothers me is seeing people spend money on TV's, Boats, Trucks, etc and claim they cannot afford it.

Drop HBO, Netflix and Cinemax.... Put your priorities in order!

Kyle's dad had recently changed jobs, hence the insurance was not in effect. They are a responsible family for sure. Kyle is the most respectful and fun kid you could ever meet. Always wearing a smile and always polite. We are praying for him and as a family member I can tell you that we appreciate the out pour of love and concern.

Thank you all for you well wishes. Kyle is my grandson. As his Aunt Rachel posted he is the most amazing kid. Honor roll never has a unkind word for anyone. The best big Brother his little brother Austin and little sister Mckenzie could have. Yes there is a insurance issue but as you have been told his father had changed jobs and the insurance had not gone in effect. My son Andy & daughter-in-law Hollie are handling this like the champs they are.
Thank you all so much for the help and support in this awful time for our families. All your prayers also.

Again I am TRULY saddened to hear this happened to him... Like I said before... everyone needs to chip in and donate.

My comment about insurance was not specific to him or his family. It served as a eye opener to those people who have an attitude of "it will never happen to me" and go and blow their cash and have nothing left over.

Get well soon little bud. Through adversity builds strength!

I took this story to our mx club meeting last night. We all flag from the local races we put on to the Seattle sx event. It saddened us all as we know our kids are and have been out there many times also.
We raised $700 to help the family. I need a # to call or an address to send this to that I can verify. We want it in the right hands.
Please go to Mudslingersmx.com and click on contact and send your contact info please.
We all hope for the best.
