Confirmed: Kyle Regal to San Manuel Yamaha

Wednesday, October 6, 2010 | 4:00 PM

Soon-to-be AMA #30 Kyle Regal has accepted an offer to ride as James Stewart's teammate on the San Manuel Yamaha team. Racer X confirmed with team co-owner Larry Brooks. In fact, Regal is headed out to California to sign and begin testing. Regal, fresh off of a great showing at the Red Bull Motocross of Nations, emerged from a tryout that included several other young riders. There was also long talks with Andrew Short, but he ultimately ended up with Red Bull KTM factory ride.

Will he be supercross only, or is San Manuel going outdoors also? I hope they go outdoors.

Did I miss something? What happened to Josh Hill?

man i wish we coulda seen him outdoors...man idk if im alone here or not but i hate this team (not the riders) just the team in general. I dont know that larry brooks helps. but it is nice to see regal get a ride but man an indoor only, hope it works out for him

What about JS's bro?? LOL Glad to see Regal get a good ride, He rode GREAT this year.

travis0215 I also hate this team. I think they would do great outdoors if they decided to do the series. They also would not have so many haters. Unfortunately there would still be haters because of Brooks. lol not saying i dont like LB but I know there are a lot of people that don't.

Its too bad he went with that team, I was hoping he would get a ride with suzuki. With all the negative crap and controversy surrounding san manuel, I am worried that it might not work out for him. He deserves this factory ride, and I hope he proves his worth, then maybe he will advance to a better team, in the coming years. Also, Im still not stoked on those new yamaha's, no one else has succeeded on one, so far. But, it will be nice to see him go out, and make that factory bike FLY. And, he is still unproven indoors, he is more of an outdoor rider. If he is only racing sx, that sucks for him.

Surely San Manuel didn't sign Regal to an SX only contract. He's a proven MXer. Does this mean San Manuel intends to go outdoors in 2011? Will we see Stewart racing the Nationals next year?

Profile Picture

Did he sign a stuporcross only contract? I know rides are hard to come by but that seems like it would be a foolish thing for a guy like him to do. He was killing it outdoors, not so much indoors.

Profile Picture
dgizzy wrote: 6:53pm October 6, 2010

So much for all the talk with Josh Grant. Regal kills it outdoors so may be San Manuel will be racing outdoors 2011 or They will let Regal race his Honda outdoors. I just dont see Regal signing SX only no way. Regal aint that stupid. Outdoors is where Regal shines. James gonna need all the help he can get now that he is no longer with Aldon Baker. Aldon is working with RV so watch out Dungey.

I think Aldon B. was a little let down going from RC to JS. I think JS camp "bought" RC's program and found out it didn't work for them (too tough). Much respect to Larry Brooks & Co. for doing what they have done. It's not going to get easier chasing SX championships or finding outdoor funding but, I hope they do because the sport needs people like Larry around no matter what the haters say. Does Hill have a ride yet or is he going Warthog???

Kyle definitely deserves this job. Hopefully they go outdoors. Im anxious to see if he kills it on some of the best machinery in the world. KTM is making all the right choices for total domination in the marketplace around the world. Wonder if Shorty will ride the foe-fiddy? That thing is such a sled.

I'm shocked if Regal does SX-only, which could mean "The Man Formerly Known as the Fastest Man on the Planet" might be racing MX in 2011. Or it could just mean that Larry Brooks has snuffed out another promising MX racing career. Why does he hate MX so??

Sorry to hear that. I was pulling for Regal to be next to dungey on that factory zook. He's already shown his ability on a yamaha i know he could smoke em on the zook

Regal will be outdoors, Bubba will do select outdoor rounds for the TV show. They'll be dicing next summer!

Holy crap people, make up your minds. All I've seen on these message boards lately is give Regal a ride, and now that he has a ride, you folks are being nothing but negative. You want him to go to the races in a pickup truck? Geez!

Profile Picture
carlsbad wrote: 2:33am October 7, 2010

Iheartwhitemore's response sounds pretty viable. If no MX contract between L&M and Regal exists, he is probably free to do what he wants. It would be nice to see L&M step up to a full schedule, if they can come up with the funding. People want to see a full season out of their riders and teams because the times have changed and we (we meaning: fans, sponsors, etc.) expect more exposure for our buck. And yes, that does mean I expect K-Dub to do at least a 3/4 season outdoors.

If you want L&M get funding for out doors release JS from his contract so he can focus on Hollywood....

ELF846---it has nothing to do with "the new yamaha" it really is all about the rider. all the bikes nowadays are so close that all you need to race a national is pipe, tires, and suspension set for you. Good for Kyle he is a great rider and im sure he will do well indoors. good luck buddy

If Regal does SX only, i don't believe it means that Larry Brooks has "snuffed" out another MX career!! I mean, the young lad himself was the one who had to sign the papers.......his choice ultimately. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the most likely scenario........JS and Regal for SX, and Regal becomes the teams outdoor representative!!! I HOPE they both go outdoors, but im not counting on it!!!

Profile Picture
bd200 wrote: 8:29am October 7, 2010

I agree whatever, I think Regal will run outdoors. I hope so. And Stewie may run a few select races like Mcgrath used to. MC used to run Glen Helen every year. But I would be surprised to see Regal sit out the summer at such a young age. If he runs outdoors, they could have the setting s right, and help Stewie if he runs a few select races. Settings really threw him off at Unadilla.

Congrats to Kyle. He was flyin' at the MXdN. I thought he was going to pass Cairoli in that final moto, but I think he had a bike problem. Hope his deal includes outdoors, too. I saw somewhere he will run #30.

I am personally glad for any MX athlete to get a ride. It just seems like a waste of outdoor talent. I really don't understand how L$M could keep their sponsors if they forfeit 12 weeks of awesome, ground roots, exposure for true MX fans. Does anyone have some insight on this condition?

Another part timer just hired. I hope something happens so he can ride outdoors. What about Josh Hill? I haven't heard much about him lately, is he healing up? Will he ride again? For who?

Congrats to Kyle both for signing and for an awesome ride at MXoN. I really appreciate his being on the Puerto Rican team and the great effort he put in. For the record, he didn't have a bike problem, he caught his foot in a rut near the end of the first moto and injured his ankle and then even injured he went back out for the second moto and rode until he caught it yet again and it was just too painful to continue. The kid has a lot of potential and even greater attitude and a lot of fight. Glad to see him get a good deal! He earned it.

Actually, I love yamaha's, I used to race one myself. I am just saying, there is something about that 2010 bike. ALL of the medium to big name yamaha pilots were injured in 2010, with the exception of cunningham and sipes. It is just not a successful bike this year, at the pro level. I am not bashing yamaha's, I like yamaha's.

Its real simple why L/M doesn't race outdoors, its twice the work for half the money. I don't think Larry cares about how many records JS7 breaks or any of that stuff, he is a team owner and he cares only about making the most amount of money with the least amount of work.

I can't believe some of you THINK L. BROOKS IS FRONTING MONEY FOR THE TEAM EXPENSES. Brooks is just a pawn! He claims to be a team owner but reality says he will race where someone gives his money to race. I think the indians are controlling the supercross only deal.

I'm glad regal got picked up for a good ride but I too hoped it was gonna be alongside dungey on the zook. Hey if its not for outdoors also he could do the nationals out of his pickup truck=again. Thats what "they" said he did this year on t.v.,thats why I have been cheering him on every week. Good luck in 11' kyle!
