Mike Webb to Manage Team Suzuki

Monday, October 4, 2010 | 9:22 AM

Brea, Calif – Rockstar Makita Suzuki is proud to announce off-road racing legend Mike Webb will be leading the championship efforts as Team Manager for both the AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross series in 2011. Webb has been a staple in off-road racing for nearly three decades and is currently at the helm of the 2010 GNCC off-road team as they take the Suzuki fuel-injected RM-Z450 to the championship in that series. In his storied history, Webb has helped Suzuki earn countless championships in off-road racing and has been the Team Manager for the GNCC bike efforts since 1992.

"I'm really excited for this opportunity to help defend the AMA Supercross and Motocross titles that Ryan Dungey so masterfully won this year," Webb said. "I'm thrilled to be working with the team and Yoshimura, as we're all fully committed to keeping that number one plate on the RM-Z450. I think 2011 is going to be a great season for us, for Suzuki, and for the RM-Z450."

To help spur the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team to another championship-winning year in 2011, Webb has also secured the efforts of Ricky Carmichael as team adviser. Carmichael has a long history with Suzuki, as well, and is considered the greatest racers of all time in the Supercross and Motocross world. Ricky will be helping the current Rockstar Makita Suzuki racers to prepare fully for competition, and advising them on bike setup, race strategy, and overall training approaches.

"Ricky is an undisputable champion," Webb said. "I can't think of a better guy to help the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team to another winning season, and I know the racers will all benefit from having him on our side."

With Webb and Carmichael at the helm of the Rockstar Makita Suzuki Supercross and Motocross team, Suzuki is looking forward to another phenomenal year at the races with their winning RM-Z450 in 2011.

Who the heck is Mike Webb? What a joke...Decoster to Webb! All the "other" factories just got one up on Suzuki! Thank you Suzuki....

I guess when you're not willing to pay for the best, this is what you get. Same reason Reed isn't on the team anymore, not to mention Suzuki just dumped their 250 Pro Team of Stroupe....Dungey, time to move on to a team willing to invest into the future.

Haha, who is Mike Webb? Did you read the article? He's been managing Team Suzuki offroad for close to 20 years. Going from DeCoster to anyone is a drop....but pay attention to who the other managers are.......ex-racers. Mike Fisher, Erik Kehoe, etc. Oh yeah, DeCoster was once just an ex-racer as well. Already securing RC as an advisor is a plus as well. Rumors had him heading to KTM with DeCoster. Glad to see he'll be with Suzuki.

Suzuki struggles keeping a program because no one buys their bikes as much as the other manufacturers. I can tell you that the Suzuki is easily a much better bike then the Yamabogs and KTMs (although their new bikes look promising). On subject though Mike Webb is an excellent choice. Already managed the Suzuki off road team and led them to multiple championships and will continue that to the SX/MX team.

How many Championships did DeCoster win as manager with Suzuki in the 90's?(few if any) They weren't respectable till Carmichael joined Suzuki. As long as Carmichael is associated with Suzuki, talented(riders, mechanics, tech support, management& sponsors)will gravitate to the team.

Nice... Mike Webb is a great pick for the job... Former racer, worked in the industry forever, put the Suzuki Off-Road program back on the map. He is no DeCoster... But can do the same job as DeCoster. Plus Suzuki is keeping RC on the payroll. Suzuki is going to be very strong for 2011.

as a Roger fan, who will indeed miss his leadership at Team Suzuki, I want to wish Dungey all the best next year with Mike Webb at the helm and Ricky Carmichael by his side.

Not gonna be the same without "the man" Decoster. Im beginning to wonder if the reason for Roger leaving has to do with more than just Contract. I think Suzuki had the money to give Decoster a multi yr contract. Remember Roger only wanted 2 more yrs than they were giving him. I wish we knew how many yr contract did Webb get? At the end of the day, the industry is full of dirty tricks and politics. You just might not know what happened but I can tell you that Decoster is in a better space than Suzuki. KTM knows that. He will bring the Euro boys to American SX 2011. Musquin full time and Roczen and Cairolli part time SX 2011.

Trust me. I've been involved in "motocross" for over 30 years...and sorry, but can't say i've ever heard of Webb. I know a Wayne Webb (bowler...lmao). Anyhow the big names like Rick Johnson, Bob Hannah, Mark Barnett, Broc Glover, Jeremy McGrath would have been cool. So you so called guys who know of Webb...good for you. Just trust me, there are "many" and i do say "many" that have no clue who the guy is. His name is definitely not synonymous with motocross (maybe off-road, but it's not the same).

hondarider19 no problem, Don't mind BD200 he is alway quick to slam people and when he is proven wrong about things he says he does not care.... Its just the way he is.

Mike Webb is Tom "wolfman" Webb of DIRT BIKE magazines' younger brother. I'm confident he can do a respectable job, I just hope the dude can get paid. It's a shame Suzuki is on one hand enjoying tremendous success in so many diciplines (MX, SX, ATV, GNCC, Etc.) and on the other cannot make payroll. This must be Bush's fault as well. Maybe time to bring back some affordable machines, something easy to work on, something lightweight.....

Great hire by Suzuki. Webb already knows how to manage a winning team and bikes from the GNCC. Also...I cant really think of a better person to help the riders with the tracks and bike set ups than the GOAT. Suzuki has awesome mechanics and bikes that are top notch. They now have 2 elite riders (Dungey and Metty) in the 450 class. They now have a separate 250 team thats getting factory backing (rockstar). Gesh...as much as it sucks for them to loose Decoster...things are actually looking pretty good for the yellow bikes.

I think RICKY should be the Team manager and Mike Webb be the team advisor. RC knows how to win a championship . Dungey probably needs RC in his corner more so than Decoster

The issue here is Suzuki chose to call him "off-road racing legend Mike Webb" which is a pretty big oversell. Not to belittle Mike's work with Suzuki offroad but seriously. For reference I googled "Mike Web" and got info on a pastor in CA and a musician in TN but nothing on Mike Webb, off road racing legend. Care to guess what happened when I googled "Roger DeCoster" and "Ricky Carmichael?" Hopefully, Mike will do a credible job. He's got some huge shoes to fill but has a good team to work with. Best of luck, Mike, and don't take any advise from your brother, Tom!

I think after reading most comments, aside from Mike Webb's friends and for the world of GNCC (no offense), it's pretty obvious that his name is clearly not synonymous with Motocross. My advice, stop defending the guy, let him prove himself. Suzuki could have clearly gone another route, but he was already on the payroll. Let's not forget Charmichael is still racing cars, so how much time will the G.O.A.T have for Team Suzuki. Once Dungey leaves things may get very tough for Team Yellow.

I have spent a good bit of time with Mike & Tom Webb. I was one of Steve Hatch's wrenches in the '90s. Mike will be an excellent manager for the team. He is sano and try setting up bikes for 6 to 8 hr races.

If only Suzuki was smart enough to Google Mike Webb they would have never hired him (sarcasm). I know who Mike Webb is and I've only been into MX for 16 years. Suzuki is the current SX, MX, likely soon to be GNCC, and ATV champs. Not too bad for a company who can't hire the right people.

All you haters can say what you want, but im pretty sure dungey and metty are perfectly capable of going out and performing weather they have a "good" manager or not. All RIDERS test their bikes, all RIDERS make adjustments, all RIDERS train and practice as much as they want, all RIDERS go out and race. The manager can only do so much. All of you are just jealous cuz suzuki basically swept every single major championship they could. Ohh yeah...and webb is a part of one of those as a manager...

BILLC. first off, fu#k off, 2nd I dont fell I wasn wrong jerk-off. Why dont you man up and admit how wrong you were about Shorty. And quit worrying about me as# face And Mike Webb may not have been involved in moto. But has a wealth of experience at managing a race team . Way more than any Hondarider mentioned. First off bd If you don't think you were wrong You need to Find a Qualified Therapist, Psychiatrist, Psychologist or Counselor in your area. You are out there. 2nd, FIND 1 post were I said he was a bad pick!!! I only said I think JS is faster and a better pick. You Alway try to twist things to say something they never did and every time I tell you find me one you can't, So untill you do STFU because I found MANY post's by you SLAMING BT and OTHERS and when the Vid came out showing that BT DID NOT hit Short you said you don't care. You might want to look up the word hypocrite because it looks like you don't know what it means even though you are one.

Bill, The only better pick this year over Shorty is you picking your nose with a backhoe dude. If JS had of been knocked down he would have quit and the USA loses.
