Racer X Sign of the (Lap) Times

Indianapolis offered up the first East Region Monster Energy Supercross race of the season, but not a return to the tacky, rutted, East Coast dirt. This one was hard and slippery, making it tough to put in a fast time. Lets look more closely with this week's Sign of the (Lap) Times presented by Motion Pro.
Supercross Class
For the fourth week in a row, Ryan Villopoto logged the fastest lap time of the Supercross main, which also helped deliver his third win of the season (darn that first turn crash in San Diego). What's notable about RV's best time, as well as second-place Ryan Dungey's, is how late those fast laps happened. RV did his best on lap 14, and Dungey logged his on lap 17, when he was trying to run Villopoto down. This track had to be beat up by then, so it's pretty impressive that they kept pushing it so hard so late in the race.
Also, note Ivan Tedesco. The Valli Motorsports Yamaha rider very nearly got caught in the gate at the start of the main, pulled his bike back, and headed to turn one in dead last. He only finished 11th, but he nailed the sixth fastest time of the night while coming through traffic on a tight track.
Supercross Lites
Christophe Pourcel was the man to beat, and no one could beat him. The defending East Region Lites Champ had the fastest lap times in practice, the heat races and the main event. He will be very hard to stop this year.
On the other hand, Austin Stroupe is working on his consistency this season, so he can stay in the hunt in case Pourcel falters. Last year Stroupe had speed but made a few too many mistakes. The lap chart above indicates his new approach: he only put in the fourth-best time, but he finished second, courtesy of smart riding.
Rookies were everywhere in Indy, and Blake Baggett can find some solace in that he nailed the seventh best time, even though he only took 11th in the main.
Now it's on to Atlanta. Will the red Georgia clay be sticky and tricky, and hard and slippery like Indy? As always, the weekend's lap times will help tell the story!
