Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda Race Report
February 17, 2010 4:15pm
The Engine Ice backed Spinechillers Storm Lake Honda team of Nathan Skaggs (#5), Willy Browning (#10) and Zach Ames (#11) entered the Covelli Center in Youngstown Ohio poised for a top spot on the podium.
Team front-runner for the weekend Zach Ames commented, “It’s always exciting to race in your home state”. “A lot of friends and family come to the race and you just want to do well in front of them.” “It also adds a lot of pressure because you can’t mess up or they will call you out after the race”.
Not wanting to disappoint, Ames who calls Prospect Ohio his home went 1-3 for the Friday and Saturday rounds. Team Manager Dallas Avery said of Ames’ performance “ Zach has been getting closer each weekend and we knew he was going to pull off a win soon.” “It’s really great to have him get his first career victory in our home state of Ohio”. “We had an entire section of family and friends in the Spinechillers cheering section and that surely helped Zach push to the front”. “Can’t wait for his second win”. Check out 20 Questions with Zach Ames at Arenacross.com to learn more about the young rider.
Nathan Skaggs after some impressive starts held on to 4’Th position in overall points for the series after the Youngstown round. According to Nathan “ Competition is tight this year and everyone is riding well.” “I just need to keep getting good starts and pushing to the end to stay out in front of everyone”. “My 2010 Honda CFR450 is the best bike I have ever ridden and just what I need to get off the gate”.
Team rider Willy Browning is steadily improving after and injury in the opening round. Avery noted ”Willy is getting back up to speed week by week is getting closer to full strength.” “He’ll be battling in the front any time now”.
The entire Spinechillers team would like to express their deepest condolences to the family and friends of GPS Racing’s George Hodkinson who passed away unexpectedly last week. George’s contacts and relationships have helped the team enormously and we would not be here today if it were not for George and his support. Godspeed good friend.
